    Historic Monogram factory demolished.

The Monogram Models plant at 8601 Waukegan Road in Morton Grove, Illinois has been torn down.

Monogram moved into its new Morton Gover headquarters building in November of 1961. Hundreds of guests, including model industry representatives and the news media, came for the grand opening. The building had been designed by Monogram co-founder Bob Reder just for the special needs of Monogram. It had 120,000 square feet of space for model development, molding, and packaging. Reder felt that Monogram was all set for the next 100 years.

Times changed, and by the 21st Century all the manufacturing and packaging had been moved to China. In December of 2004 the company, now Revell-Monogram, moved to a new facility in Northbrook, Illinois just a few miles away.

The owners of the old Monogram plant tried to sell it to some other industrial company, but found no buyers. So in January, 2006 the bulldozers came in and pushed the building down. The last things to go were the silos that used to hold raw plastic pellets.

It is expected that town houses and condos will be built on the site since it has a nice location bounded in the rear by a forest reserve.

Lots of great models came out of the Morton Grove plant over the years, but nothing lasts forever.
