Colin one of the problems, also an accolade in some ways, is that the peoples of a (genuine) democracy become happy enough, not perhaps totally by any means, perhaps grumble a little around the edges, but accept fait accompli. Actually politics is the way we agreed as a country to run our lives together if you voted or even if you did not vote.
"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except that all the others have been tried".
Winston Spencer Churchill.

I find sometimes on forums when you post something it can seem very different to what you really tried to say so I thought it better to post an apology.
Politics is a very contentious subject and if you don't get it right then it can come across in the wrong wayComment

Anything with the word 'politic' in it causes rise to debate Alan. One of many reasons I avoid the topic.
Don't feel awkward for posting what you did, your original post makes a statement .... That's what you should be aware of and feel good about mate !Comment

Nothing wrong with your thread Alan. The problem is that power is bestowed to the people, but Governments want to appease but need to look after number one, themselves and the country so it is a balancing act that doesn't really work...never will. But, a revolution with people toppling said Government will not work either. We need rules, and a Government-Democracy isn't the best but it is the best so far. All forms, Democracy, Communism, even dictatorships have good ideals in them, but once they are in place, like anything, corruption, misguidedness, laziness etc all take there toll.
I do think politicians are above their station 99% of the time and most are from a money background as most have no idea of poverty levels or struggles, although they do try and live in the real world I think, to many, that they are shelter through upbringing and social backgrounds that it is beyond their scope to grasp.

Simon you put it better than I did , politicians no mater what party are detached from real life and have no idea what voters want because today every voter has there own ideology so they try to appease everyone but don't see what's good for the country because they want to get elected above everything else and then do what they want.
In my opinion the only democracy we have is thechance to elect a new dictator every four yearsComment
