Swambo and the Stash

Sat in the garage today merry modelling away when in walks Swambo. Looking at the stash of piled up kits ready to be made, stored and generally looked at until the mood takes me to start one, the words that came out were My God, what on earth is all of those. After explaining the hunter gatherer thing all I got was well you don't need anymore. The question is, do you as modellers think it is healthy to have a decent stash, not that I will take it back but just curious to see who else gets it every now and again?

I 'only' have 32 in the stash at the moment. Trouble is well over half of them are rather large boxes!

Having seen the exchange rates DKK/GBP it might just get a little worse in the next few days. Oh my misses is fine with it.

My missis gave up years ago. She doesn't know whether to be more exasperated at the pile of models in the attic or the number of large model boats in the garage.

I just say be grateful it keeps me out of the pub and she is happy. I think what she can't understand is when I continue to buy models when I'm away and have no intention of getting around to building them for years.

I don't keep a large stash of models,no more than half a dozen,usually only two or three. Books are another thing. I work away quite a bit and often receive exasperated phone calls along the lines of " a package arrived for you,I think it's another book". The clear implication being that I don't need anymore. I showed her my latest acquisition "Emblems of the Jagdwaffe 1936-45"....talk about a blank look!

i've seen SWMBO mentioned a handful of times. what is that? i'm assuming it's got something to do with our wives, but i can't figure out what that means.

TingTing never bothers me about what i have, i to like to keep a stash but it can be expensice when you build the larger scale as i do. I have a 1/4 scale Tiger Moth, a Se5a 1/4 scale and a real old kit of a Foker 109 Bi plane. I also have two big engines for the first 2 kits. She would show a bit of intrest if she knew how many hundreds of pounds this little stash costs lol. Better not let her know.

I Think the thing is that it DOES keep me out of the pub and you can see what there is at the end of it, not p***ing it against the wall. I think that she was just in awe of the stash that I have, at least that is what I thought she meant by the first comment at the start of the post. I have not takne to hiding any yet, because there is nowhere but the garage to do so SWAMBO -She WHO Always MUST Be Obeyed!

You know, the thing I find laughable is the number of women who'll exclaim / proclaim and complain loudly and frequently about their partners / husbands hobbies yet conveniently forget about their own buying obsessions, (i'm talking about women I work with who'd swear they don't buy things for themselves or treat themselves often yet every other day it's Look at these new shoes, look at this new bag, look at this new blah blah blah, or we NEED a new suite for the conservatory and I saw a couple at about £200 but went and bought this one at £500, i'm pretty damned sure her husband didn't NEED a new conservatory suite to replace the 2 year old perfectly good one they had, in fact he needed it so much he didn't even get to give his opinion on it until 'they' had ordered and paid for it).

My missis is very good about these things, she has her own bits and bobs, we sort the bills between us and each use our own spendies to buy our own things, everyones happy, I don't say, 'another jacket? how many can you wear and how much?, likewise she doesn't say, £40, for a bit of plastic?

As long as i'm not cluttering her silversmithing workspace with kits she's OK

The inability of women to see the need for a stash (large or small) is genetic. They are simply born without the ability to see that our stash is the equivalent of their wardrobe! :lol

My wife calls me a Geek because i make models and i look at this site a lot when she spends more time on Facebook!.I tell her this is a site for people with an interest where as Facebook is for people with no interests.

My SWAMBO has far more books in the To Be Read pile than I have in my models to be made pile and remind here daily. I think its the aircraft hanging from the ceiling that *** her off. She say it like been in an air raid 24/7. If she built some she may be able to take air supremacy and turn the tide.
