As usual no mention of Hull in the media, the fact that from 19.00hrs last night the City was totally cut off by the floods until 12.00 this lunch time.

No rail or Road link from the west, the A63 closed from several miles outside of Hull and sealed off. Anyone wanting to get a train had to find there own way to Doncaster as all local transport was suspended.

As usual we all pulled together and a great feeling of camaraderie was felt last night, with our Princess Quay Shopping Mall taking in many of those evacuated or trapped in the city centre, giving them food and hot drinks

Shades of 'A North Eastern Town Was Bombed Last Night' Still a very sore point here in Hull.

No ranting Gregg it was on BBC breakfast this morning. They had a reporter some where. Stupid place it should have been on the banks of the Humber or Hull.

Take it the Drains worked well ?

Any way I think of Hull a lot Gregg so do not feel segregated.

There was a man on BBC breakfast in Hull this morning. Crap deal for the whole of the East coast, Scotland and Wirral where my missus is from. Nothing much ever happens in my little corner of Hampshire.

The River Hull Tidal barrier did what it was intended to do, and stopped the Hull from over-flowing, except for a few minor breaches.

Unfortunately the Humber that was expected to peak at 4.15mts rose to 5.85 broaching the banks on both sides (Lincolnshire & Yorkshire) as far down as Goole.

It was the areas parallel with the Humber that suffered most in our City, Hessle and Anlaby Road suffering badly yet again.

As the City centre is only a few hundred feet from the banks, it was flooded within 30 minutes of the river broaching the banks. There were water spouts a metre high from the drain covers in the centre, it happened that fast.

The emergency & volunteer services were amazing, and as mentioned some of the retail Malls pulled out all the stops to help those in distress. The City Centre electrical system failed early in the emergency, trapping late night shoppers in several complexes & stores as the escalators and electrical door systems all failed! (something that needs to be addressed) Underground car parks were amongst the first to suffer, but after all they are only cars and can be replaced!

There are still several areas that are still recovering from the devastating floods in 2007, as many insurance companies failed to reimburse many victims back then. (Luckily we did get a good forewarning this time, and it wasn't raining as in the previous incident) The problem is, it is nigh on impossible to get insurance for flooding in Hull since then, and the Government hasn't really helped with regards to this problem.

But as in the past, as Hullensian, we will prevail!

I don't know about Easington.

However Kilnsea & Spurn area's were severely hit, with cars in Kilnsea being swept away & residences swamped!

Crap...Kilnsea is 2 miles from my site and the site gets very boggy when it rains heavy...may have to phone the site tomorrow and see if all is well.

rain wasn't the problem, it was 20ft high waves sweeping inland from the coast that has caused to problems!

Winteringham and South Ferriby also got hit badly. I do believe the A1077 is still shut between Winterton and Winteringham due to the road being washed away at one point

This is not good news at all, not only for me but for the folk that live around that area. My site is just down from the gas plant and has been hit badly with erosion, brought on even more with the council approving the gas plant to us large granite blocks as a sea wall-this has led to even more erosion on our site and further down around Spurn point. The cliff is only about 25 to 30ft and is a soft clay nature, not rock, this just falls away when pounded by really bad storm waves. There is a bit of grass around 20ft or so, a single track road, the a small amount of grass, a caravan the a gap then mine, altogether around 50ft or so. In the last couple of years we have lost at least 5ft! Even if my van is okay it will covered in sand from the waves splashing up and a right mess

I'm originally from winterton so have lots of family and friends on the 'south bank'. Apparently the cement works at South ferriby was hit quite badly

Denmark was closed yesterday from 18:00 until around 15:00 today.

Just about every bridge has been closed. Five towns around Roskilde Fjord have had 2,8 meters over high water.

Houses in Jutland have been washed into the sea.

Hurricane force winds for 48 hrs on and off, more on than off I might add.
