Selling up

Hi everyone

With an exceptionally poor start to the year and with a great deal of uncertainty about our future I'm reluctantly forced to downsize rapidly and place our house on the market. As a result of this I've also decided to sell the vast majority of my model kits and some of my equipment.

I have over 200 kits of various kinds that will be listed on Ebay over the next couple of months, some of which are rare and some that contain all the aftermarket pieces necessary to build a truly impressive model and, although I won't be giving these away, they will be competitively priced.

I do intend to keep a few choice pieces as I don't want to give up the hobby completely but the RC Tiger build will probably be my last build on this site for some time. Still, I suppose it makes a good swan song!

I'll post lists of the models for sale as and when they go on Ebay.

Trickey - Sorry to hear that you have been hit by the crunch. It seems to be happening to a lot of people, I hope that you make some money with the sale, it is a sad state of affairs when the current finacial climate forces the sale of a collection that will cost a lot of cash to replace. Yet again you have become another statistic and I do not mean that in any derogatory way at all, I am just saddened that you have had to do what you have had to do!

Very saddened to hear it Paul. Most of us try to keep our modelling going as a means of escaping from the trials and tribulations of the outside world but when that is taken away as well what have we left? The trouble is with so many others in the same situation items are not fetching what they used to and house prices are also struggling. I picked up a rare 1/9th scale Zundapp in the states last week for a snip, which would have comanded a high price normally.

House prices up north are stagnant at the moment again and even falling slightly in some parts so those who are selling are finding themselves in a worse situation. I would always suggest that if you can sell up everything but keep your hands on the house you will be far better placed to take advantage of the recovery when it comes, as it will. You will never replace the house and never get back to where you are now if you sell it for a reduced price and will loose out on the money it has made for you over the years.

I sincerely hope you can get through it all one way or another.

Hi Paul i've just read this post and iam very sorry to hear your news, it is bad enough that you need to sell your home but to have to sell your kits and prized possesions is a truely terrible thing, but as my grandad used to say we all do what is necessary for our own survival. I know thats not much comfort but i sincerely hope that you manage to get through it relatively unscathed best wishes and good luck.

Yes, these are certainly tough times but we do what we can to get through it. Without going into great detail, all options are being considered at the moment and I'm still optimistic about the future. Also, having met a number of professionals this week, I'm generally more upbeat than I was 2 weeks ago. That said, action is required and I am making some tough decisions. Anyway, enough of this frankly depressing and rather uncomfortable talk...

About the kits: The kits will be competitively priced but if they don't make my start price then they'll simply be stored, I'm not going to be holding a yard sale for the family silver!!!

All the best Paul. I know how hard a choice it has been for you. I nearly had to do it the other month when my wife was made redundant. We are very lucky that she starts a new job on tuesday and therefore my stash is safe for now. Good luck with the future and hope to see you on here from time to time.

Gutted for you mate , just been through what you are going through now with having to sell up , myself and family are living with friends at the moment but are moving into a nice smaller rented place next weekend

I`ve not done any modelling for about 2-3 months and I`m biting at the bit to get going again , what I`m trying to say is don`t sell your stash and kit mate you will regret it , you will get through this and get some normality back trust me and in a couple of months or how ever long it takes you will be gagging to get back into modelling again.

Hi Paul, really sorry to read that things are getting tough. Never a nice time. I hope that you get through it. It is a hard call to make, selling your stash.

As to the actual sale, why not put a list up on the forum. I am sure that there are few people here that will quibble about the price if its a kit they "need". Keep 'em in the family so to speak. Who knows after a while you may well be offering to buy them back. If you get no joy here set them on e-bay and get all you can for them.

I really hope that things start looking up for you.
