    You tube crashes...

Just been watching some car crash compilations on You-tube...I am soooooooooo glad that I do not live in Russia or other eastern countries, most of the crashes are from there. So, it begs the question: Can they drive? Do they have a system of a driving test? Can they drive? Do they actually understand the laws of the road? Can they drive?

    Very scary indeed.

Yes, I saw these recently, very scary. Be warned though, the way driving standards seem to be declining in the UK, certainly as regards aggression, ignorance and sheer bloody-mindedness, there could be some scary UK car vids too in the near future.

True, showing my age but I have noticed a decline in British road standards as you say Mark.

I'd never drive in a foreign country most of the countries slow you to go through red lights :0

While Russian roads are more dangerous, the look even more so to us because Russian insurance companies are insisting more and more that their customers use dash cams (hence all the footage!). I suspect that if British drivers were to have a comparable number of dash cams, we'd see plenty of "UK Crash Compilation" videos too! (Though perhaps not as many with

          in them...)

I'm actually considering getting a dash cam fitted anyway. With this day and age of 'where there's blame there's a claim' culture, i feel it would be there for me to use in any claim against me and my vehicle

I was thinking of this but would it be admissible in a case ?

Reason I ask is about three years ago our car was written off while it was in a car park so with a camera pointed at the area of our car I requested the CCTV footage and was told I had to make a report to the police and they have to request it so I did that and it was sent to the police and then to my insurance company I also had a witness who gave his details , it was done by a woman in a hire van and it turned out that the van wasn't insured so it fell to the driver of the van and she refused saying she hadn't done it and it was the responsibility of the hire company , she got away with it and so did the company even with overwhelming evidence against them , she wasn't even done for leaving the seen of an accident.

So we of only lost our car but because we had to claim on our insurance we lost our no claims bonus.

So no matter how much evidence you have if they denigh they did it your stuffed

Oh dear come to Jersey which has the lowest rating in the UK on motor insurance.

Difficult to nick vehicles almost unknown even for an night drive.

All the intersections are pass in turn (signs at every major junction pass in turn). All islanders do it. To our English visitors (I am English) it comes as a shock but we understand when they take no notice. The result the traffic flows better tempers are not frayed.

We even stop to allow pedestrians across the road. Now that is rare in England.

We are surprised when in England at the look of surprise, even shock, when we wave a car from a turning.

What is it that makes Jersey different and I might add Guernsey as the same.

All of this with about 120,000 cars in an Island 9*5 miles in area and just 500 miles of road.

So "Anglais" take a lesson ! But I just love England & English people oh yes OK I will add Scottish (I have 40% calculated Scottish ancestry or blood) Welsh & Northern Island.

                Laurie

Just add we have Portugese 10% Spanish Italian French Australian Scandinavian American----------- all living in this small place happily mixing.

I've been to Russia a few times.

I would suspect that much of the bad driving there is due to alcohol. That's not just a Russian problem

maybe living in Russia leads one to drink to excess and have a bit of a death-wish
