Now there's a thought, the wife probably hasn't voted yet!!

You may be interested to know I have masses of books, manuals, pictures, dvd's, magazine articles and models of spitfires. I have absolutely bugger all on the 190. Bloody ugly thing anyway.

    No suprise there then!

Don't worry about me anyway as it looks like the preffered time scale for completion is looking like three months. You may have noticed that I have been suggesting a considerably longer time frame for this as I depart tomorrow for..... yup, three months!!!

Its a warbird through and through, and for its time a superb machine designed by a genius, the Butcherbird did its job well under the circumstances, well ugliness is in the eye of the beholder,I would class it as a big beast of an aeroplane,if Hitler had not run short of resources at the wrong time, then it could have been a force to reckon with,I would have preferred it to model as opposed to the Spit this time, but there you go,majority rule as per the poll, perhaps next time around ?

Isn't it strange that I have always thought that German battleships were beautifull things to look at compared to the ugly messed up configurations of the british ships yet German aircraft were the ugly ones when compared to the absolute beauty of the lines of a spitfire.

The harsh angular lines of the 109 and the long disproportionate snout of the later 190 never seemed as gracefull as the rounded and more streamlined Spit and Hurricane. I think this goes even further into comparing such aircraft as the 110 with the Mosquito, a Heinkel 111 with a Halifax or Lancaster. And anyone who would come up with the Blohm & Voss or a Stuka as a design must have needed help! Even when we got to the jet aircraft the 262 doesn't look a patch on the Whittle or the Meteor.

I am sure that Barry could write a thesis along these lines but, as you quite rightly say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Still I know what you mean, I also always liked modelling the German aircraft as well when I was young.

I think we must always bare in mind that most if not all ww2 german weapon designs were given the go ahead by crazy corporal himself, from uniforms to u boats. To me, most German designs were superior in artistic looks if not design. Afterall when something looks terrifying, half the battle is won. The two aircraft that do it for me from ww2 are,

            1. 109

            2. Hurricane

The German aircraft were just beautifully functional as well as having that all important aggressive look

Richard, thats really intresting actually as im the total opposite, i think the jerry planes look soooooooo much better than the allied equivalent. The angled lines to me look right, the curvy british look just doesnt do it for me!

As for the timescale/you being away? Could we send it to a port that you stop in so that you could pick it up????

13 voters and only 10 aircraft votes???? ermmm can the people who voted without choosing an aircraft please vote as thats going to mean the fw190 will win.....er......i mean.......it will be a fair result for both planes..

Agree the Gerry planes always fascinated me too. The devil has the best tunes ! Do I take it that you have rash Fw s to dispose of ? Are we only 13 strong ? Reckon we might have to do a couple each then. How about the "fakes". I`d do a flight , allied or hun, but this is Spitfire year.

When you consider that it is 60 years on,and these aircraft still create so much interest as the day they first set fear into us,I do not know what it is about German machines but they hold something magic that cannot be described ? the designers must have been working under such a lot of pressure to achieve what they did,the designs were well thought out for the purpose that they were designed, combat and heavy bombing.

Some of the stories attached to these as well,in the Midlands we had lone raider Bf.110's flying between balloon barrage trying to do damage to local armaments factories, even attempting to join the circuit at one airfield and shoot up British aircraft in front, brave or madness?

I think if the Spit wins, and we will very soon know, Squiffy should have to make a pink one.

                          So the Spit wins then.

Squiffy to make pink you need to mix red and white.

                              searching

Hello all, I've started the search for both the Spit & 190 early days yet but I'll let you all know when I find them and how much they are. I thought that I'd manage a day of telephone searches as the schools were closed today and i had to take the day off to look after the kids, spent moere time making snacks and sorting games /toys than on the phone . Typical wasted day at least at the office i could have managed it lol

                              cheers

                              Jim

barry, john told me to come to you. this "poll" has become a shambles of all sorts. we need a new thread, with the preivious 2 deleted.

the new thread needs to show the results of the poll and exactly what we are doing,

eg....are we getting our own kits or is some one getting them all and sending them out?

                                rules....etc.
