    Barry,

Your point reminds me again of the thread a few months ago when we spoke of this and the experience I had on the model boat forum.

Much as we try to justify the attitues of some of these people under the guise of "He doesn't suffer fools" or "He is OK when he gets to know you" it all boils down to the fact that there are rude, opinionated and arrogant people who do not deserve to have access to passing on thier experience to our younger generation.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of posting and reading on this forum and I feel that not only have I learned some usefull things myself but I have also been able to pass some of my years of experience on to others.

I really do beleive that there is no such thing as a stupid question and people who think there is should not be in the business of guiding others.

One of the most important lessons I deal with nowadays in our modern business environment where leadership is taught from every imaginable angle is that we must be approachable. My message to my lads is that if they ever think I am not then I have got it wrong.

I hope we can carry on providing encouragement, guidance and advice to the likes of Richard and Greg so that they can also enjoy all that modelling has given us over the years.

...and I enjoy your caption pictures!...and Nigels quizzes!...and all the jokes!!

Please dont get me wrong i think that its vitally important that we help and support everyone! what i meant is that some people just log on to ask one question then go away again! i think how we deal with that question is of paramount importance. If we handle it right they will probably come back or recomend us in the future! It is pleasing though when a new person logs on and instantly becomes part of the group. I wonder if John really knows what he has created here??? :-)))))

*** Nigel, this is what is known in the trade as the 'Bums on seats' syndrome, you get it in lots of walks of life, shops, establishments, clubs etc there is a fine line dividing people who are browsing and those looking to join a group or forum to participate on a regular basis, actually thinking about it I have done the very same thing too, sometimes I will go to a forum and spend four or five hours searching through the archives ( time does fly when doing this ) but could not have any desire to join, there are only so many hours in an already busy day,I think the real problem is that we get spoiled for choice on the internet these days, just too much to take in sometimes, but yes I know what you are saying.

I would imagine that John in his wisdom could forsee the scope of scale modelling for the future as a forum, when he set it up,he hit on a good domain name for sure,on the other hand he could have ditched it through lack of takers in the early days, but no he had the patience and the strength to carry on,along the way we got to where it is today through the diverse subjects keeping it a living place, the forum certainly buzzes.

Another point to make is that many people who are looking for something specific, may find it here through a search engine, come and ask that question and then not return, but as you say it really is nice when we get people like Squiffy who have been helped by the forum, then give something back to it,that really does give a buzz to things.

:respect1: From modelling as a child, then rediscovering it as an adult. I must admit, joining a web group such as this was a daunting prospect. I have seen other websites where it seems their sole purpose is to poopoo peoples efforts (sad but true).

This site seemed sooooo, how can i say this the right way...........mmmm

BRITISH. In that, it isnt a competition to see who is best, or No1, or who came first. It truly is about helping people and becoming part of a community that gives support and help at every corner. This site has been a mountain of help already, whether by links to suppliers of "hard to find parts" or by your own experiences and vast knowledge (wonwinglo is Yoda! I am willing to bet money on it). (The Squires catalogue is a must for all modellers, thankyou guys! oops -and girls, I often forget that there are lady modellers!)

I apologise if I seem to be piggybacking on this thread, but I didnt want to do one of my own incase it seemed too mushy, inviting a jolly old flameing.

Sometimes you have to give credit where it is due.....

              WHAT A GREAT WEBSITE !

              :respect1: :bravo: :bravo:

when i started this thread it was a simple thanks to everyone, its now become a mass "thankyou board"

picking up on a point earlier, i actually found this website through google, i had recently purchased my badger 200 (i think thats the model no.) and was looking for spray-painting techniques.

it came up with Nigels tutorial (great by the way nigel!)
