    1/32 Luftwaffe Decals

Hello everyone another bit of help requested here if you would be so kind. I am currently building a 1/32 Me 110 G4 Nightfighter a kit that I found on the net. It is a 70's release Revell kit and I want to mark it as that of Martin Drewes NJG 1. The decals that came with the kit are that of Hauptman Drewes, however as you can imagine they appear slightly brittle. I am looking to source some newer ones of the same markings, but as yet have been unable. I did purchase a set of sad scale from Peddinghaus Decals, but they are for Schnaufers aircraft G9+KA.

I am looking for as I have said Drewes aircraft G9+WD, the W being green in colour but to no avail. Can I therefore ask has anyone got any pointers as to where I may be able to find or get a set of decals I am searching for.

    Many thanks in anticipation

Luftwaffe codes are difficult to find, particularly the coloured letters! I guess you already checked hannants for generic sheets.

You may find that your best option is to spray them. If you don't fancy making your own masks get in touch with Mal Mayfield here.

    Home - MIRACLE PAINT MASKS

He can do just about anything with the correct info and is a modeller of some repute himself.

Here's a typical Luftwaffe curve ball. G9+WD is the excepted code for the aircraft you are doing BUT Drewe's said in an interview (1999 I think) that his aircraft was coded G9+MD. The M was, obviously, for Martin and he claimed to have had special permission to use it. Then again I've seen a profile of WD signed by the man himself. We do love a conundrum!

Cheers Steve, I will give Mal a shout, thanks for the info. Drewes - I met him once in Wendover at a signing and he signed some paper for me along with Hajo Hermann. When I asked him about the code on his aircraft he said 'WD' so who knows? As you say we all love a conundrum.

Hi Andy,I checked that interview and it was in 2009.

Just to confuse things there was some discussion about Drewe's aircraft,Bf 110G-4, 720410, on a Luftwaffe forum a while ago and someone reproduced some Luftwaffe reports from when he was wounded (the exploding Lancaster incident on 21/7/44) in which the recorded code is indeed G9+MD. I made a note of this as at the time as it was news to me but I can't remember where it was or what the source was...sorry. I've got a crap connection (dongle) tonight but a check of "12oclock high forum" and "LEMB"(luftwaffe experten message board) might turn something up.

        Cheers

          Cheers Steve

I will check the site and see what it turns up, thanks for the update, I just wonder where G9+WD came from, maybe that was a previous aircraft and the model makers have just gone on and had the decals printed up and threw them in the box. Drewes did say that he flew WD when I spoke to him. I know two other NF pilot's Peter Spoden and Rolf Ebdhart. Rolf flew with Martin Drewes, who was his Staffelkaptain and maybe able to shed some light on any changes. The problem with Drewes is that he lives in Brazil and although he will answer letters he is always moving between there and Germany. I will have a dig around and see what turns up, but thanks for the input, it is appreciated especially as I have a 1/32 G4 build on the go at present.

It appears that bothe G9+WD and G9+MD were indeed his aircarft
