    Internet Ordering

    Hi all

A question for you all. Has anybody had any dealings with supplier called 'LSA Models'?

They appear to be based in the UK. Came across them as I am looking for some metal/resin upgrade gun barrels and under carriage for a Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster.

Their ordering process requires you to send you card details with your order from your own email address. After that you they issue you 'customer number' which you can quote for further orders.

To me, this is not the 'usual' way to place an internet order. Which makes me wonder how this company storing customers personal details.

This may of course may be my own suspicious paranoia and everything may be completely above board but I thought I would call on your collective knowledge.

    Over to you...

I have had this experience regarding some modelling item from somewhere else and have had no problems. LSA are in Hove, Essex and have a shop IRC. I can understand your concern and for a place that does have a premisses with stock and deal via email etc, why they haven't moved on a bit and accept Paypal?

I am sure everything will okay.

You could use Hannants instead. They sell the Master range of brass gun barrels which are very good. They also sell the Scale Aircraft Conversions range of white metal replacement undercarriages.Ive used this company many times and have always had very good service. And you can pay them through Paypal.

I have seen LSA at Euro and at other shows. Pretty sure they are above board but a bit of a strange way to do business

I'd be really dubious about putting my ccard details in an e-mail, there are just too many people who can hack into e-mail accounts. There's a reason e-commerce sites are on secure servers. Could you maybe phone your card details through?

It could be that the company is 100% but my advice to any one is never send your credit card details in an e-mail.

As Mike points out they are way to easy to hack and before you know it.... you have bought 5 i pads, a new hi fi and god knows what else!

I totally agree with Ian. Never send your credit card details via email, or bank details come to that.

Ask if they can take Paypal sending card details by email is a big no no, I can't believe people place orders with them if thats their only form of payment

Ive noticed that lately some companys quote the date protection act and wont deal with your enquiry until you give them Full name, DOB ,address ,mothers maiden name, secret word.etc.

So therefore you are giving all your details to Joe nobody in a call centre.

I say they have got it all wrong and the data protection act is being quoted and used wrongly.

Harry - this is standard practise now. Where any information that is remotely personal is involved there is a duty to ask questions to verify identity. As a financial adviser it is a daily occurance for me. Some companies can take it too far and have an odd idea about what classes as personal rather than generic information playing safe rather than sorry.

With the others. LSA Hobbies are totally kosher, no problems there, but think very carefully about how you transmit your credit card details. Give them a ring and do it over the telephone.

                      Cheers
