    IE8 or Javascript problem?

I have started to notice that certain things on my internet aren't working correctly. When i surf sites like ebay etc etc i can use most icons but not all. So sau if i am searching for a 1/48 FW190 i can type in FW190 in the search bar and when the page comes up i can click the 1/48 scale icon and everything works ok.

But if i want to save that search to my profile it doesn't. Putting my curser over the icon all i see in the bottom bar is javascript:; and nothing else happens. I've also noticed that it takes an age to load users thread pics on this site too. They normally pop out in a new box and i can close/shuffle through them no problems. But now they pop out eventually but i can't click any of the shuffle/close icons.

I have loaded the latest version of Java but it still happens

Any ideas guys as this is driving me nuts?

The java you load on your PC isn't the same as java script on websites, the one you load on your PC can cause problems that's why I never install it, IE8 is quite buggy and there's a lot of sites it doesn't seem to get on with, update to IE9 or even better try Firefox

I have been using Google Chrome for a while and it is very stable and a lot faster than IE and a little faster than Firefox. Firefox has just released a new version by the way.

My wife uses Chrome all the time she loves it, there's just something keeping me using Firefox, and your right it is faster than Firefox and last time I used Opera that was faster again but there is just something I really don't like about that, off to grab Chrome and give it another go

Chrome all the way for me. Fast and reliable.

My day job is a web developer so I use Firefox and the wondrous Firebug all the time, but Chrome is an excellent substitute. I would never choose to use IE of any version unless its absolutely necessary.

With Firefox I have Adblocker which stops ads showing and an extension called Ghostery which notifies me and allows me to block all those annoying tracking cookies that sites love to drop on your browser. I am not an advocate for blocking ALL cookies - some of the sites I've built rely on them to work. There are legitimate reasons to use cookies, but I object to marketeers trying to track my browsing habits, so block them at every opportunity! I also use the extension called BetterPrivacy that tracks the flash and now silverlight cookies that can also be left on your pc by annoying bastard marketing and ads.

Oh and finally, sometimes I find that clickign on a thumbnail brings up the lightbox but the full size image won't load. This often requires closing it and clicking again. From looking at the behaviour in Firebug, this looks like its an ajax timeout issue or something along those lines (my apologies to anyone who found that last paragraph incomprehensible jagonified gobbledegook )
