I have just finished reading The Red Line by John Nichol on the bombing run on Nuremberg. Brilliant book and very detailed with accounts from downed aircrew etc. Scathing about how the mission was flown with little cloud cover and full high moon and contrails from the Lancs/Halifaxes all adding up to a terrifying ordeal by the crews as the German night-fighters were in the right place at the right time and engaged in the first use of 'schrage musik'-Jazz Music, upward firing 2inch shells. The poor sods didn't know what hit them. 95 bombers lost with over 500 airmen dead/missing/baled out, many with injuries. If you haven't read it then I strongly suggest you get a copy, it is a very absorbing and sobering read.

I met John Nichol at a airshow many years ago, a lovely guy.

Some time ago I have read the "Some disputed barricade" by Anne Perry.

Is a nice book....but still prefer the fantasy genre :P

It's 100% historical? Or has some fiction..?

It is historical Polux, but it has some heart-wrenching pieces about wife's girlfriends, letters home etc. And, of course, that fateful raid. It brought home the panic and terror of being in a Lancaster when it was hit, the flames, the screech of tortured metal and the guys unable to get out due to the g-forces pinning them in the airframe...all this in the dark skies.

A good book to wake up your imagination...and model kits to bring them to live...is the perfect relationship

Si if you liked that book read "Tornado down" by John Nichols and John Peters.

They were shot down in the first Iraq War. Remarkable story and two very strong characters subject to inhuman behaviour who yet came out the other end as two remarkable human beings. Especially so as they were so young.

Thinks me must re-read. The beauty of getting old. There are few. Memory only goes so far but it does entitle you to re-read books and get the maximum enjoyment second time around.

Started reading one about Dunkirk but left it in the caravan... Have one on Dieppe somewhere.

Alan you may find the Dieppe raid a bit fragmented.

But try the St Nazairre Raid. Put --- st nazaire raid pictures-- into your browser and I think you will see the possibilities.

Not a diorama man but think this will make a spectacular one. So much going on.
