Reviews of kits

Before i buy a model unless i know it's a new mould kit and therefore 'should be' up to date i always try and do a little research on them. The more and more i look at kit reviews the more and more i am seeing the problems that is getting on my wick.

I find that no-one seems to build the kits OOB (out of box) now. They always seem to be adding bits to it because they 'couldn't resist'. Considering most of the people reviewing the kits seem to get them for free i find it annoying they can't at least review it in mind for the beginner/moderate modeller in mind. Not all of us are expert rivit counters wanting a totally perfect build.

Sorry for this 'rant' but sometimes less is beautiful too.

I Know what you mean. I normally look at what has been said about kits if there is a choice of two brands. Often the outcome is a surprise. Tamiya kits get a lot of praise for good fit and ease of build etc. but also get it quite hard with accuracy issues- when they get it wrong they get it WRONG.

I have just read two reviews of a kit. One by Tamiya for £36 the other a Trumpy for £20. OK there where issues with the Trumpy kit but nothing an hours fiddling could not take care of. The Tamiya got it in the neck. Wrong size, wrong shape, bits left off, and things there that should not be! Not a huge amount of talk of add ons, but it was mentioned what there was available.

I am buy no means a rivet counter and can live with most things, paying top dollar for a second rate kit is not one of them!!!!
