PLEASE HELP RESIN CASTING

Hey,

im am interested to know if anyone can guide in producing multiple resin figures.

For example many of the figures are small around 25-30mm in length and I need to produce maybe 50 per shot rather than making a single mould for 1 figure per time.

Any help, advice or links would be much appreciated.

I have to ask. Why?

You can make a mould that is as big as you can handle, and cast them 100 at a time.It just means that you will need a 100 masters as well....

i agree with Ian, to make a large amount, you need allot of masters. But if i may ad, that if the figurines are that small you will need some quality resin, and probably a' vacuum pump to pull all of the air bubbles out of the castings.

Hi there, are you making your figures from scratch, or buying some and using them as your masters? Reason is copyright if you are wanting to make loads and sell on. Not a downer on what you're proposing just that the forum, members will not be a part of anyone using others work for personal profit.

So, the question is: If you're making scratch figures yourself, or someone is making them for you-then that is fine and we will try and help as best we can.

As Richi has pointed out, two methods of extracting bubbles from your resin are, ideally, a vacuum pump or a vibrating table of sorts to get the bubbles to the surface, of course this isn't the best and time is against you.

A Polyurethane liquid plastic casting mix, with hardener is available-two part mixture is your resin.

As for the moulds use a silicone two part mix-fast acting to create your moulds.

You will need to make a wooden frame box that is sealed and clamped-a tongue and groove design is best as it stops the liquid silicone from running-just need to make sure the seems are tight.

Just 1 other thing.... to do with clear resin....

If you want to mould for example an "clear aircraft canopy" or maybe a "interior glazing for a model car like the examples below can a clear resin be used to produce a similar result?[ATTACH]82511.IPB[/ATTACH]

If you want to produce the thinness of the canopies then it could be a difficult job to perform even if you use an original canopy-if you have access to a vacuum pump it could be possible, but with resin you will always get air-bubbles so total transparency with no defects will be hard to achieve. The two part resin you can buy is 'cold-mixed-resin-casting' the clear parts for models are injection moulded and the plastic and mould is hot.

As for the figures, any air bubbles on the surfaces can be filled with filler and then painted-so no issues there.

All I can suggest is trial and error and give it a go.

You can get a clear resin and cast Window parts. Several manufacturers sell resin canopies for aircraft. As Si pointed out, the need to remove ALL signs of air in the mix is very important in clear parts.

If you look on You Tube, there are quiet a few videos. Try searching how to cast resin, or resin casting.
