50g???

I need to put 50g of weight into the forward section of a new build, but have no way of measuring how much this is I don't have any scales able to pick up 50g. Should I just put as much plastacine in as possible? I don't have any lead fishing weights at hand as there are no local fishing shops, I did consider a small brass padlock fixed in place with a glue gun?

Any suggestions will be most welcome.

I don't think that plasticine will be heavy enough. Well I guess it could be but it would fill to much room.

Do you have any nuts and bolts....

May we ask what it is you are building. As long as the weight is forward of the main gear, it will help. Lead is good due to it being so dense. Small stones perhaps?

Its just a case of packing weight in where there is room for it.

Not much help, but a little I hope.

Ade as you live in Willenhall on a Sunday morning at Bilston market there is a fishing tackle store he stocks lead weight in lots of different shapes weight and sizes also you could go to your local building/roofing merchant and get a roll of lead flashing comes in different lengths a metre of this would last you a lifetime hope this helps cheers John

i just use plasticine (cos its cheap) and nuts (cos i blag them for nothing from work)............sometimes use lead as i have a supply of .44 calibre balls from the days when i was into shooting muzzle loaders and cast my own,they sometime fit in nosecones just right..............just pack as much in as possible as far forward as possible

apparently lead reacts slowly with ca glue so use something else to stick it in if you do use lead

Your local hardware shop may have some fishing tackle weights or something similar (nuts and bolts as suggested, or lumps of lead).

Ade, You don't make it clear if you have scales that don't measure that low a weight or have no scales at all. If you have the former I would suggest weighing out a suitably high enough weight to show on the scales, say a block of butter at 400g, then add your ballast weight until you have 450g. Take away your block of butter and you are left with 50g of ballast.

Or, estimate. Butter comes in blocks, when you open the wrapper there are usually lines on the paper that act as a guide to the weight of a slice of the block' usually 25 or 50g. Cut a lump off using the wrapper marking lines as a guide and compare the weight in your hands.

I honestly believe you should try and get hold of some fishing weights. I use two or three different sizes of shot which then packs into available spaces tightly with no need for any glue or fixing.



50g is quite a bit of weight. I don't know how much space is available in your model but I think the denser the weight (like lead or similar) the better. You will obviously need less space than for something less dense (like plasticine or nuts 'n' bolts).

You could of course Adrian use Uranium which is a very heavy substance and would take up less space.

Perhaps just a spot of Plutonium to fill a very small space.

I think I'll weight ( haha ) till the weekend and go buy some lead weights, I did manage to use some kitchen scales to judge that two small brass padloacks would be the correct amount, forgot I had scales that mom used to use

I bought some flash tape from B&Q today,, maybe they have changed it as its not any where near as heavy as I had hoped, luckily I found a small fishing shop just up the road from me so got some Lead shot that will do the trick
