    So to die very happy

Sounds dramatic and from my point of view and Pauline my wife's point of view it is so. But we do not depart for some time yet despite the age for we have so much to enjoy.

Our youngest of 4 and my youngest son Peter has found the girl of his dreams. Yes he is 36 but we thought this would never happen and it has.

Never happen as he was from 14 years old plagued by mental problems and for which he suffered for many years. But I have seen him climb from that so very deep abyss rung by rung fall back and recover and rung by rung carried on never doubting himself. Even the Doctor told us that he thought Peter would be institutionalized for his life. We were even asked if we could cope ie he would have been sectioned as that horrible expression. But no no way would we have that no way indeed.

So he is now to be married next year to a lovely lady. And I have never seen Peter so happy. Plus his brother and two sisters are so happy for him.

So the moral of this story. Never never give up. Peter has shown me that with absolute determination life can be turned around. I have never met a person with the determination of Peter. He still has those difficulties but he has taught himself to live and come to terms with them. He refers to it as his problem !

And so that is why we will die happy.

What a lovely touching story Laurie, congratulations to your Son and your family. I sincerely hope that life for him continues to be full of happiness. I know that dark thoughts will emerge now and again but with a good women and family (which he has) he will conquer these demons and prosper.

Inspiring. I'm a bit of a pessimist and think how lucky our family has been to escape serious problems (so far).

Laurie, what an uplifting post. The human resilience for bouncing back despite personal 'adversities' sometimes knows no bounds, and your son Peter is a shining example.

I wish all the very best to every member of your family, but perhaps a little bit more piled on Peter......

Thanks very much for that Mark. Yes we have invested so very much but when it is one of your family it is the only proper way. But that investment has been rewarded now many times over and is now spilling over into a very happy bonus. Such is the title of this piece and it is no exaggeration.
