Half-face masks for airbrushing - good but not THAT good...

...just had the unenviable task of disposing of a rancid chicken breast out of the fridge. I know, I thought, I'll wear my airbrushing fume mask, that'll stop me retching.

Did it hell - just about managed to contain the heaves.

So be warned everyone. ALSO remember to take the mask off when walking outside to the bins, lest you (like me) encounter your neighbour on the way and have to explain what you're doing

Bon appetit anyone who's having breakfast!!!

Ah. But does your half mask have ordinary dust filters or does it have active carbon? If you have the dust filters I can quite understand why you where suffering. If you are using active carbon then maybe they are to old. Active carbon filters degrade ALL the time they are exposed to air. Best thing is to take them off when not in use and pop them in a plastic bag, suck out the air and seal the bag.

If you have new filters, keep them in a bag the only other advice I can offer is to clean the fridge out more frequently....

They're "ABEK1" filters from memory (the blinkin' expensive ones I know that much!!) and not had them long... Sounds like I'll have to be more diligent in future!

ps - thanks for fridge management advice :-p

      ;-)

Well an ABEK1 should be fine for Organic gas/inorganic gas/acid gas/ammonia so it sounds like they might be on the way out. When did you buy them and was the pack sealed???

We used to have all kinds of problems with customer opening the bags to take them out to look at them. Even a sign saying "if you open the bag you have bought them" didn't help!!!

What make of mask is it that you have?

In fairness it still seems to work when airbrushing so maybe it wasn't seated properly - it wasn't overpowering but you could smell it - and I'm not blessed with the strongest of stomachs...

Filters were sealed yeah, can't remember the make, got it from B&Q for £30 give or take a penny - as I say will be more careful when I replace the filters, which I gather are not cheap!!

I can beat that Andrew! I carp fish from time to time, and had a fridge-freezer in the shed full of baits and such. Well came home from a ten day holiday to find the fuse to the shed had gone and the whole shed was rather funky. Infact the policeman that lives across the road was very close to breaking the door down as he thought I had a body in there!

Most of the baits; boilies where fish based and with such wonderful names as monster crab, oily fish, banana and cream, you get the picture? The hard balls of bait where little more than mushy liquid. 30kg of putrid fish and rotten sweetcorn. Yummy.

slightly off topic and more to do with the noble art of angling, i used to be an avid angler in my youth( havnt been for years) i left a jar of maggots in the airing cupboard to turn into casters, and forgot about them, mum was not happy, i was about 14 a the time. another clever thing i did was that one time after a fishing trip i was sorting out my tackle box in the front room. i noticed that a plastic box of tiny hooked (barbed) was damp inside. i thought it would be a good idea to borrow my mothers hair dryer and dry the box out, needless to say in the end my mum had to replace the carpet, because we could not find all the hooks that had flown everywhere and she was frightened about getting them in her feet.

That'll teach you to have your tackle out in the lounge.

I had a carpet disaster as a kid too. I was very much into art so while folks were out I fashioned a light box out of some books, a sheet of perspex and a bare light bulb lying on the carpet. Don't think the carpet was of that high a quality since when I came to pack away the bulb had melted to the carpet and left a nice round brown burn mark. Carpet was practically brand new - it was a really long wait for parents to get back from wherever they'd gone. I think I escaped a tanning however, probably claimed for it on the household insurance!
