    Cosford Airshow, my disaster

Well I haven't been to an airshow since 1988, funnily enough that was Cosford as well. Anyway my friend said we should go as I was off, so he collected me at 7am and off we went, by the time we got to Junct 3 we were queued back to the island but we didn't mind as we knew this was going to happen.

Well to cut a long story short I had taken my Nikon DSLR with a new 300mm lens as I wanted to get some pictures, but been a self confessed buffoon when it comes to cameras I let my friend and another friend we met up with play with my camera and set it up for me. After taking several shots of the large scale models that were flying they assured me I was good to go........so imagine my surprise when I get home ( after waiting 2 hours in the queue to get off the base ) that all my pictures are over exposed I did look from time to time at my screen and even now they look acceptable but on the PC monitor all I have is completely whited out back grounds and poor images of all the shots I took,,, some 999 images btw

I've gone through them and have about 10 that I consider ok,,, strange thing was half way through the Red Arrows display I switched my camera to sports mode to get pictures as there was so much going on, then switched it back,,, those pictures at least have some colour if not fantastic.

Moral of this story,,,leave my camera at home and just enjoy the show next time,,,,I'm so gutted

To true. I've given up trying to photograph moving planes. And yes, getting off the base did take for ever............................................

Late 60's went to USAF Bentwaters with a friend.

Night before stripped the lenses from the cameras, cleaned the blinds/lenses etc., and put back together.

Loaded the films 35mm Fuji Colour Reversal slide films. (pre digital days)

On the scooter early hours of the morning to get to the base early.

As in those days there were no barriers etc., around the ground display aircraft, we needed to be in before the aircraft were surrounded by 'PEOPLE'

Running around photographing everything with both camera's, and pleased with getting nice PEOPLE free shots of everything.

Right, now to pick a spot along the flight line clear of 'PEOPLE'.

Set-up with telephoto lenses etc., clear view of both ends of runway,

Great, have a proper American Burger (not English cardboard replicas) and drink.

Check counter on cameras !!!!!!!!! no frame numbers on one camera !!!!!!!

Point at floor, click shutter, wind on. No frame number change. What The ******

Climb inside my Parka and carefully open camera! AAARGHH, no bloody film in it.

Ten minutes before the flying display due to start, and the nice clear view of the flight line, is no longer a nice clear view of the flight line.

A bus full of boy & girl scouts has been deposited right in front of us.

Really P****d Off now, but nothing we can do about it.

Great display of a variety of aircraft and good day in the end!

Set off for home, get to New Holland ferry terminal to catch ferry across the Humber.

Missed the last ferry by 20mins.

Long ride around Lincolnshire to Hull (pre M18, M62)

Arrived home just after 1am, backside hurting and eyes on stalks.

That's when I decided to pass my test and buy a car.

The joys of visiting Airshows, back in the days when they were a regular occurrence.

So sad that there are very few now!

I've tried, all I can get are a few semi decent shots of the planes on what still looks like a white background

That is a great shot though the plane really stands out.
