Old Man/New Modeler

Have always loved to build/create things, but at my 80.5 years cannot do much heavy lifting.
I well remember my teen years of building plastic models of aircraft, cars, ships, etc.
I has struck me recently that I would like to return to that hobby.

So, found this site and looking for a recommendation for my first kit, where to buy, tools and tips.
Pretty much have forgotten what little I knew of this in my teen years.

You are in the same boat as many of us in returning to the hobby after a long lay of after enjoying it as a kid.

As a general guide for starting up most Tamiya kits go together well and Airfix’s starter range are a recommended too as they have been specifically designed for beginners.

As the other guys have said let us know what you are looking at building and I am sure you will get lets of help and encouragement 😊

Welcome to the forum. In addition to the advice already given I wouldn't buy anything too expensive for your first kit. Look for a basic kit in a slightly larger scale, say at least 1/48 and just get used to working with plastic again. You will learn so much as you start to explore the various new products, tools and techniques that have been developed since you last put a model together. You will get all the help and advice you need on here so feel free to ask away.

Given the recommendation not to leap in with an over-complicated model I would also echo the suggestion not to buy an overly expensive or complicated toolkit: I think craft knife, couple of sanding sticks, pair of inexpensive nippers, Tamiya extra thin and Revell Professional adhesives will suffice to start with. Paints are a matter of choice but, unless you have experience with air-brushes, stick with a couple of inexpensive brushes (pointy, round, flat). If the hobby grabs you again then you can build up your tools as you go! And ask away here - loads of help available¬

Hi and welcome.
As above what sort of model would you like to build? eg: military, civilian, planes, cars, tanks, boats, etc?
And what sort of scale, eg: 1:72, 1:48, 1:35, 1:24, etc.
As a relative new returning newbie myself, I would echo all the advice above.
Don't spend too much to start with, a basic toolkit will suffice, nippers, tweezers, glue, couple of sanding blocks/files, craft knife, maybe a self healing cutting mat.
I would recommend looking at a few YouTube video's on you phone, laptop, tablet, pc, etc as there are so many good tutorials on all aspects of model making, plus don't be afraid to ask any question on here, they are (mostly) friendly, Lol.... 8-)
Most of all, enjoy it buddy, all the best with it and let us know how you get on.
