Probably an urban myth, but I once heard a story about a radio interviewer who asked a fan what he thought about English football. The fan reckoned it would be a good idea! Or maybe it was cricket, or rugby or tennis or maybe it was even Mahatma Gandhi talking about Western civilisation.

Before anyone decides I should be shot for such heresy, I have to tell you I'm no sort of fan of any sport so could be considered entirely neutral.

PS If the mods think this is too inflammatory could you please remove it?

The lads on the forums thought he came to us to give Bamford someone to talk to while they were both in the physio room…..not a bad addition if they can get him to play reliably though….and Farke is pretty good at man management, though a bit rigid tactically.

That was Ghandi……be nice if world leaders had that sort of sense of humour these days….

Ha well nice of Bamford to let him have it to himself! DCL is a good player on his day but more of a male model than anything else it seems

              This is my team 😊

I went to my first game when I was four and have been in love with them ever since.
I was a season ticket holder for a while but working lots of weekends put a stop to that.
I still manage to go to a few games each season.
This week is the 125th anniversary of us playing at the Hawthorns 🤩

              Geoff.

Great little ground the Hawthorns, wen there for a Carling Cup tie back in the early 2010s which we won on pens, proper old school football stadium

Not sure I should admit to this but when I lived in England I was a West Ham fan so I still follow them. My Dad signed for Spurs in 1939 ( not much of a career due to other events) so I follow them as well.

Meh, I used to follow football a lot more when I was younger TBH.
Now its pretty much only the National teams games that I watch, maybe the FA / Champions League finals, but thats about it.
Its so commercial now, players paid ridiculous amounts of money, too much play acting, dodgy decisions, etc, etc.
Not just FootbalI know, I also follow F1 and thats gone the same way too. [Sigh!]

I think you’ve just described all professional sport….. For footy, league one is more entertaining really. When Leeds were down there I even went to some games, because usually they are too far away from me….Yeovil away was a great game….still standing, mixed home and away fans, and inadvertently funny fan comments.

Wow that's interesting, did he play much? What position did he play?

Didn't get to play in the first team. He was a centre half as they used to be called in those days. He did play a lot during the war for the army, he represented British troops stationed in the Med for a match or two.

I understand where you’re coming from Peter.

It’s not so much a love of football with me but a love of the club. It’s in my blood, pretty much my whole family supported them and memories of games are intertwined with memories of going to games with my Mom and Dad or Uncles or my Sons so it’s much deeper than just the football.

I do watch other teams on TV but I find a lot of games quite dull 🥱

I think money has spoiled a lot of sports unfortunately including F1 which I used to follow too ☹️

                            Geoff.

I agree with you about F1, I used to be a flag marshal particularly at Brands Hatch. Never forget the 1976 Hunt/Lauda battle.

Great take here Geoff. Sometimes i hate the sport and what it's become with VAR and the state of the discourse around the game, but sadly I'm in an abusive love affair with my club that I can never leave and that's what it comes down to. I can never forget how they made me feel sometimes, even though now and then I wish I could
