Well its about that time when people are stating to get itchy for the next GB. So I will start the ball rolling.

I just dare not start opening the bags until I have to. There are Three bags of tyres! A small PE fret and some rope/wire.

The Light plastic are the tracks for the PhZ. these are just 2 of 8 sprues. I feel a mental break down on the way!!!

Looks like a lot to get together, but i'm sure it'll be a cracking model when finished.

Had a quick look on t'interweb at these models and they're full of detail, there's fiddly bits and bobs (technical term ) a plenty !!

I'm just finishing off a Faun (Revell Germany - 1/72 Faun SLT 50-3 Elefant/SaAnh.52t)

Not an easy one for a noob like me but I'm enjoying the final result so far!

Looking forward to see yours with all the bits and pieces I am not able to add to mine due to (the lack of) experience :-)

I have just been having a nose through the PhZ 2000 and found some photos on the net. It looks like I have a few things that could be better, but all in all the kits not to bad. Its the usual things that have suffered. Grills and grates, handles and the like.

The same site had loads of photos of the Faun and the 59 ton trailer, so that will be useful there too!

And that is a very health attitude! Its all just for fun and even a well built and painted 1/72 kit can be far more rewarding than one in 1/35. ( they are just a bit easier to see/build).

Well I was expecting a stampede of posts here over the week end. Maybe not.

I came home from work Friday and got stuck into the PhZ 2000. Things I least like with tanks are the wheels and belts so being me I attacked them first! The tracks where a long drawn affair 96 links each side, three parts to a link, thats errr, emmmm loads of links! just took one sprue at a time, built them, coffee, smoke, on to the next. One thing that helped a lot was a new pair of sprue side cutters. If you don't have some get some.

Just be sure they are the kind that has the cut flat against the side so you can get right up to the edge of the part. The only clean up needed after that was a quick rub with a fine sanding stick. Liquid poly on a very fine brush was used to glue all the bits together. ONLY TWO links got glued up all the others are fully mobile and I can highly recommend the Bronco link sets.

The wheels where a simple enough thing and after assembling them they got a random attack from a scalpel to take out a few chuncks and nicks from the rubber on the road wheels.

We are well into Saturday now and my attentions are turned to the hull of the tank. The whole of the surface of the hull and turret is covered in moulded on detail. Including handles and lifting rings! Out with that scalpel again). likewise a large grill in the middle of the hull was nothing but a (badly) moulded square. That went to and I built a box to go under it and added a few bits which I believe are cooling radiators.

Finding a fine mesh to put over the hole was a bind. Then I had a cup of tea. Bonus. the "Liptons" new improved tea bag is mad of a VERY fine mesh. Problem solved. How ever I still have one problem. I forgot to paint the inner frame! here and now I am stumped as I can not see that box coming out in one part to paint the insides!

Spent an hour or two making handles and lifting rings out of brass wire.

I was just in the process of glueing the top and bottom of the hull together, when I saw a problem. The Drive wheel and tracks would not be able to go on once the hull was together. Out with the paint! The wheels got a coat of Vallejo Yellow Olive as did the lower hull sides. Tyres got a go with black and pale greyblue (I think it was). The digs and cracks will get a dab of pure black later.

The tracks!!! OH DEER. I think these would have painted so mush better on the sprue. Live and learn! The inner surface got Alclad II Steel and was left over night. Today, Sunday (and raining like mad), the contact area between the rubber tyres and the steel tracks was masked off and the rest of the tracks sprayed with Manifold, then gunmetal then pale burned metal, all from Alclad II. The last two being randomly dusted hist and pist! They look better in real than in the pictures. The wonder of modern armour means that I also have a million rubber tread blocks on the tracks to paint. I think I might cheat and just paint the ones that will be seen.

Spending much of today drilling out the holes in the cargo box on the turret. Photos of the real thing show that it is made from hole plate. The kit part just has pits in the surface. I might paint up but I will drill them out. Like wise there are two fold down steps are the rear of the hull. These in real life are made of open grates. I'm not to good at drilling square holes so I might have a go at scratch building those!

Can't wait to see more pics of this build Ian, I too have built the 1/72nd scale version of the Faun and trailer, that was certainly a nerve stretcher on its own. I have put a combat excavator on my trailer made from an M-60 hull with dozer blade, and the excavator is scratch built. Keep up the great work Ian will certainly be worth it.

More fiddling with the PhZ 2000.

A rather crudely moulded part at the back of the turret, I must admit that I have no idea as to what it is, is about to get the chop and be replaced with brass wire.

Not perfect, I will give you that, but a bit more work and it will do- I hope!

The tow wire was nothing more than a smooth round bent to shape. I cut the ends off and drilled them out. The new one is made from copper thread. I took four strands and twisted them up to form a basic wire, made one more the same. These were spun clock wise. I then put both in the drill and span them together, anti-clockwise. Instant hawser!

A few thin strips of evergreen was used for the retainer clamps.

Looks a lot better already!

I added a bit of tea-bag mesh to the turrets pneumatics compressor intakes and framed it off with more evergreen strip.

Rear view mirrors! The ones in the kit are one part and posed out, as in ready to use. Under transport they would be folded in and down. So the part was cut in to three bits, The attachment the mirror and the arm. The arm was bind and a new one made in brass wire, the mirror and attachment where drilled out to take the wire and the whole lot rebuilt as folded and flattened!

I forgot the before pictures, but this is how they ended up. Added bonus, I dont have to paint mirrors!

Thanks Scott. Its in 1/35. The PhZ is about 14 inches from muzzle to rear. The hull its self is 9" as is the barrel (11" if you count the 2" that are pushed into the turret! So it ain't little no.

The Transporter is just shy of 28"!!! Hmm! think I'm going to need a new shelf!

Just a few finishing touches to the PhZ and I will be starting on the Faun.
