I will paint both parts black and paint in some detail then affix the decals to the front of what was a clear part before fitting it into the front of the panel then use Micro Crystal Clear to represent the glass.
Well the cockpit is done. Remember my model will be buttoned up so there is little of the interior on display hence not painting much forward of the instrument panel (other than some black primer) or behind the armour behind the seat.
I am very pleased with how this has come together. It is a complex construction with tight tolerances but it
is a real pleasure and I am very happy with the look. What do you think?

I am not sure if it comes across in the photo but the leather seat back looks superb it was Vallejo Red Leather with a dark brown AK wash. It has the right sheen and texture appearance. The seat belts are better on the kit than in the photo too.
Next the engine. I will only be doing the basic block and those not needed for my buttoned up appearance. It will not be painted.
Tempted but in our small flat Pauline would have to stand all night.
For me detail in model making is the enjoyment. Complications and detailing where you have to use the grey matter to sort out the sequences. if you do not it all goes wrong.
Here is where I am now at. I have to say the fit is excellent but you do need to use clamps. There are very tight tolerances and if one piece is not tightly cemented into its place it will have a knock on effect causing poor for late in the build.
There are also a lot of ejection marks and some sink holes to deal with. It's not so bad for me as I will be closing her up but if you have hatches opened up these will need to be dealt with. I am not complaining, this is a great kit one of the best I have ever built.
I need to leave off a lot of the engine fittings and pipes as they will prevent the hatches from fitting. I am just fitting enough of the engine and radiator parts as are needed for the structure and will be seen. The model is becoming satisfyingly heavy.

Above with the inner lower wing fitted as you can see it fits like a glove. I will use a little Mr Dissolved Putty to blend the wing part in a little with the surplus removed with a cotton bud dipped in ipa which will preserve the detail.

You can see a close up above of the wing structure going in. There is a fair bit to do and any slight misalignment will put it all out. So far so good. Finally a pic of where I am up to.
