Progress has been slow but steady, now ready to close up.  I am gluing the bulkheads one by one and then dry fitting with the other side to check everything remains aligned.


Rather than the carpet monster, our cat struck in the night. A small piece was attached to a bit of masking tape with the part number on and left in the tray overnight so I did not lose it.  Come the morning it is gone and despite a search of the house not a trace could be found. Luckily I managed to whittle a replacement with the aid of a bit of plastic rod.

It is not that surprising the 1/48th Eduard kits are the best Mig21 kits around, at least there are plenty of variants and camouflage schemes to go around.

Finished working my way through the bulkheads and the fuselage closed up.


The nose cone is full of lead, literally.  I may have overdone the nose weighting a little but this is not something I have done before and wanted to err on the side of caution.  For those interested I used the small weights on a thread sold for curtains and cut them off the thread, coated in superglue to hold them and then a couple of coats of Humbrol Clear in an attempt to seal it in.

What shade of green did you use for the radome Dave?

I used the Mr hobby aqueous H46 Emerald Green,  the actual call out is for H26 Bright Green, but I cannot see the difference and they both give  Humbrol 2 as the equivalent.  I didn't see the point in buying H26 when I already had H46 to do the cockpit colour mix.

A little more progress has been made, starting to look like an aircraft now. 


The workspace is only looking so tidy because I moved things around at the weekend and swapped my desk and modelling table around so the modelling table is now much nearer the window.

Yes it will be undercarriage down and the cockpit open.


Made some more progress, I need to finish off the seat and fit it, fit the cockpit and mask up and then I can start painting.  I may have overdone dirtying up the seat.

Looking good, I have to post some progress pics on mine, not far off joining the fuselage now. Looking at the version you have chosen that camouflage is going to be interesting to mask out, looking forward to seeing that.

Thanks Neil,  I am not planning to mask the camouflage.  I will mask up the canopy and exhaust ports etc. and the underside/overside edge as needed but I intend to do the camouflage freehand with the airbrush.  it will be a basecoat of the Tan and then the patches of light green, green and brown.

Thanks for taking part in this GB Dave, it's good to see everyone's builds progressing.

Start has been made. All the sprues have been labelled with tags to make finding the right one easier (thanks to someone on here for that idea).  The paint mix for the cockpit colour has been made and stored in a dropper bottle.  Finally construction and painting underway.  Still more painting work to be done in the undercarriage bay.

That looks great Dave, and has sort of answered a question in the back of my mind. I'm going to use printed PE on my next build, but it's nothing like the cockpit colour, so I think I'll have to modify the colour, as you have done here.
