Ok I'm gonna commit, a year seems plenty of time and the thought of it is so fascinating I feel I must challenge myself to do something off the rails.

2 . Can you cut the crap out of them and add stuff to make it differant ( sci fi ) sort of 1944 sort of

Yes as long as its equipment not built after 1945. If it was used in 1945 and before that's fine,
