Graham D's USS New York Trumpeter 1/350

A bit late, but here is my contribution to the group build, the USS New York. Here are some sprue shots, there are more sprues, but most are duplicated. There is photo etch included, but I seem to have mislaid it, or it got thrown away when I was clearing up from my last build, so I have got the Pontos detail up kit.

This is the colour scheme I will be using

    The next 4 are duplicated

A small update, the hull is stuck together and the wooden deck, which came with the Pontos PE, has been stained beck blue

The deck is on, most of the blast shields have been removed as they will be replaced with photo etch

This looks good Graham. Not aware of this kit or ship, is it the same class as the Arizona?

The USS Arizona (BB-39) is a Pennsylvania-class battleship commissioned in 1916, where as the New York (BB-34) is a New York class battleship was commisioned in 1914. They were both battleships. They do look similar, but that is probably because they were designed around the same time and in the HMS Dreadnought style.

                  Thanks

There are lots of small cutouts to remove from the deck, and then very carefully lining up the cutouts, with a good dose of swearing as it goes slighty askew and you have to remove it and start the placement again.

Started to do the guns. This is a 20mm oerlikons. There are 42 to do, I have done 4 and that took me 2 hours.

now onto the 5 inch guns, there is only 10 of these and they are a bit bigger.

I have finished the guns, yippee!

Here are the quad 20mm bofors,

and the 5 main guns. The barrels are burnished, but will be painted

This is the start of the catapault, a small kit in its own right, there are about 50 pieces. I bought this Model Craft universal work holder to replace a small vice I had been using. I wish I had bought this sooner, it makes holding pieces like this so much easier.

Here's an update, the main bridge and the cranes are made, and the hull has been painted 5-H (haze grey) and masked for the 2nd colour H-O, (Ocean Grey). Once I have put the last colour on 5-N (Navy Blue), I'll then mask the hull for the red and black waterline.
