That's a nice start Simon, more of your excellent miniature madness.

Nice work. I never knew they were chain driven. That's my education for the day.

Not got much done but have made a start on the springs - wire wrapped around a 0.6mm drill bit seems to give the right size

I also made a track link two part forming die to put the curved section into each link

The links are 6.5mm x 3mm sections of pewter with the corners rounded off

I pop them into the tray part then push in the top and press down to form the curve

Each link will require eight rivets adding so that could take some time

Lots Pete - haven't counted, but it will be lots

I used the same principle on my 1/48 Whippet but being larger I managed to make the punch incorporate the track rivets

I shall probably try again with a mark2 version of the 1/72 punch to see if I can do the same thing before committing to punching a lot of them - it will save a lot of time if I don't have to add eight rivets to each link so worth experimenting

Ahh! The madness returns. Individually made track links with detail. Good luck with that one Simon. That should send you to sleep:smiling5:

added some basic detail inside the left sponson as it will just be visible through the open doorway

Simon.
Making you own links ! :flushed:
Well I've seen it all now, is there no end to your talents. I was impressed with the spokes on wheel making some time ago, this just takes it to another level. :thumb2::thumb2::thumb2:

:smiling: Morning John

track links are a lot easier to do than 1/72 wire wheels

Morning Steve - not gone overboard with the detail this time. Just enough that can be seen through the door

That's a good photo you just posted - I see there is another ammo rack inside the track unit. Couldn't see that on the pic I used. Also some good detail on the rear wheels :thumb2:

Hi Simon
As usual your detailing is superb. Love the track link doing thingy but 8 rivets on each plate  - patience of a saint.
Jim

Cheers Jim - I still need to try a Mk2 track link press with built in rivets. If I can get that to work it will be better

Steves photo above showed that the kit tailwheel assembly was a bit lacking - the bar that the wheels attach to is just a solid block in the kit rather than an I beam with holes in it

I therefore pulled the tailwheel assembly off the hull and modified it best as I could to match the photo

Needs a bit of tidying but better than the kit version

The wheels are also missing a lot of rivet heads so I started adding 0.25mm dia. punched lead foil ones

Oh 'eck - thought I'd finished but Peters photos show even more detail and means there are more problems with the kit part
(Whoever scratched that new assembly can't count :rolling: - there should be five holes each side of centre on that axle beam)
