The engine has had the pushrods fitted and painted and a final wire added at the front ( red one) the crankcase and gearbox have had their grey done and ive made the small brass id plate from a bit of suitably coloured wine foil with a few random marks made with a scriber. The seat was made from an aluminium venetian blind slat from the metal spares box , cut and bent to shape . It might look simplified but thats because the real thing was , just welded sheet steel , i imagine the parachute must have been acting as padding. Ive been using the excellent walkaround pics online for reference , the ipms stockholm ones being particularly helpful with the cockpit and engine . The seat sits on two bearers which i made from styrene rod glued together on a bit of sticky label backing paper , once the glue dries it just lifts straight off. The seat will be going in last off after further construction and painting in the pit and fitting of the seat belts which will have to be made .Click image for larger version

Looking good Tony and great scratch building. What gauge lead wire are you using and did you get it from a fishing tackle shop?

Its fuse wire john , not sure what amp but i get a pack from wilkos for around 40 or 50p with various amp rating wire ( and therefore thickness) on it . I suppose fusible links are getting rarer these days with most fuse boards being rcd breaker types but if you can get hold of some fuse wire its very useful and for modelling purposes identical to lead wire hope this helps cheers tony

I had trouble finding it locally but an ebay search for "fuse wire" turned up a seller doing 5 packs of the assorted cards for less than 3 quid delivered. Cheaper than firing up the quattro and fetching some :smiling5:

Thanks Tony I've been looking for fuse wire myself for a while and as you say it's getting rare to find. I'll take a look in Wilkos when I get the chance unfortunately my local one closed down a while ago due to cutbacks. Thanks John

Bit more added to the cockpit tonight . Ive fitted the side bars to the seat , made from bent brass wire . Ive made a bracket for the compass and gunsight which sits between the two instrument panels . This has been made extra long so i can get a good fix on the bulkhead , Ive also added a triangular bulkhead just behind the mounting for the rudder bar . Speaking of which , ive made this from bent wire and wine foil for the foot straps and this will be fitted after painting of the cockpit. The side consoles have started to be made , the right hand side one is just a bent flat panel with the switches etc on top and the left hand one is a solid panel with throttle quadrant and levers on top . This one will be fitted to the floor after painting . Next steps i think are to get some paint on as its getting busier and will be hard to paint if i add much more . Click image for larger version

So wot are you gonna do with Gort? No way does he look as good as the rest. I suppose you could always scratch a replica of Klaatu's ship though ..... now that would be good!
