Did the first bit of the national markings today , the white circular outline. Strangely one was just about perfect ,the other one bled under the mask like mad. It’s since been touched up though and tomorrow I’ll have a go at spraying the fasces . Apart from these and the fuselage band and rudder cross there’s only a few more markings to do. The fasce (axe bound in sticks) under the cockpit which is supplied as a decal , the red number 6 (spare decal box) ,a few white serial numbers again supplied on the kit sheet and the insignia of the night fighting units - the owl sitting on a crescent moon holding a rifle. Naturally this isn’t supplied in the kit so I’ve got to hand paint it :tired:.heres a few pics including one I found on the net of the actual aircraft I’m doing

, lucky really as there aren’t that many pics of the night fighter cr42s
FIAT cr42 n nightfighter in 1/40 scale

Got the fasces masked up and sprayed and apart from a few tiny touch ups I’m really chuffed with how they’ve turned out. The few decals that I’m using have started to get put on , the circular fasce emblems under the cockpit and the serials under the tail plane are the only kit decals I’m using, the red 6 coming from the spares box and the owl in the crescent moon is going to be a mask and hand paint job. The top wing has had the aileron linkage rods added from guitar string ( high E I think , anyway the thinnest) , as has the rudder and I’ve made two navigation lights from plastic rod and my trusty nail art jewels , which have been attached to the front edges of the wing. I’ve got two more decals to add , the savoie coat of arms badge on the rudder cross , again from the spares box but I’ve got to find them first .Comment

Cheers Andy , the hairspray technique is perfect for models like this with raised rivets as it’s easy to get a realistic looking worn appearance , I,ll be doing the same on the p-38 night lightning , cheers tonyComment

Thanks guys , well after holding my breath till I nearly turned blue and going cross eyed through the magnifying lens I’ve got the owls done !
I had to use the finest brush I’ve got and I could probably have done with one a bit finer. They look fine at normal distances but appear a bit rough under a mega close up but it’s done now and It’s the best I can manage so I’m happy. I’ve just given the whole airframe a coat of Galeria Matt varnish to seal everything and give that dead Matt ,dusty finish evident in the photo. Once this has had a day or two to cure I’ll be fitting the guns ,exhausts ,rear view mirror (which I only spotted recently after looking at the photo of this aircraft) and then the top wing. Cheers tonyComment
