Fernando, the 110 is looking the biznizz. Thought 1997 didn't seem too far back until I counted back. The office is wonderful. Gotta get off my but and start on a night fighter soon.

Allen, it has cooled down since Wednesday here, although at my worksite it still was 30 degrees on the scaffold in the gym:smiling6:…
Tony, I just scaled back the ones I did in the Toon challenge:smiling4:.
Jim, indeed the fit is poor at most of the major joints but that comes with an older model and this keeps the sanding skills up:tongue-out3:, see some of the pics…
Colin, true but this might be a short run one with so much to do:smiling5:.

Well after I lost two evenings to yet more concerts (I have a broad music taste:smiling4, the rest of the weeks free time was spent at sanding, filling and sanding the wings:upside:.
Apart from one fault on my part, I let part of the lower starboard wing slip during curing:rolling:, the gaps on the various parts tested ones filling skills.
It fun to sort of re-scribe the lost panel-lines again, better to hone the skills on a cheap model like this and have more success on the expensive ones later on.
As can be seen enough to correct:



Wing tips were a piece of work too as they were too thick, so sanding them back in shape took some patience and time…

Not complaining at all, known by heart it’s all part of the hobby:tongue-out3:.
Finished the weekend by attaching the wings and tail, after some pre-sanding was needed and when dry a big seam on the bottom awaits.
Pretty big now too, have been building smaller ones this year till this one so have to get used to this scale again:smiling::


Started on the props and they need filler too, especially on one of the hubs as it is a bit misshapen:rolling:...:

Some nice progress there Fernando.You have great patience with the filling and sanding .
For us armour modellers we can hide anything with mud but on a plane it's there for all to see .

John and Joe, thanks guys, indeed all that sanding and filling helps the look after painting, still on a learning curve though :thumb2: .

Seems it has been almost two months since the last post from me:rolling:… been slow progress in the painting department on this one.
Priming and pre-shade was pretty fast but applying the colours, masking and giving it extra dry time didn’t help the schedule too:







Doing a splinter and mottle scheme requires a lot of masking and takes a lot of time, it’s still worth the effort:smiling4:.
Paints were VJ Black for the pre-shade, VJ Grey primer and VJ 71.257, 71.258 and 71.259 for the RLM 76, 74 and 75.

Although the top-side pre-shade is gone through the various paint layers, the bottom one survived, maybe a post-shade will look fine in the end.
Something to contemplate after the regular weathering routine:thinking:.

Now it’s off to pack for my entry in the Dam to Dam running event this afternoon, the first ones have made the finish at this time of writing but with over 46,000 the starting times are in blocks and I’m in an afternoon one.

Lovely job on the mottling and splinter camo Fernando. I think the post shading will look just as good.

John, Alan, Richard and Pete thanks guys, only my second mottle finish but more are sure to follow :thumb2: :nerd:.

Well I survived the Dam to Dam run and a couple others after that too with just enough time to finish this one for the upcoming SMC event.
Decals were the usual older Revell quality, the bigger ones had some silvering to contend with and the mouth had to be cut in several places to better fold.
It also needed a good deal of MicroSol to settle in shape and some touch-ups, Revell 36 is a good match to the red and any white (Revell 301 or Gunze H11) can work on the white bits for corrections:


Swastikas were from a Technimod sheet btw, Revell naturally doesn’t supply them being a German company and all, although I don’t like Nazi scum WWII Luftwaffe still has to have them IMHO so one can see that some of the best planes were built by the worst of humanity…
All those decals did took up more time than hoped and I lost a bit of mojo, so ended up spending two weeks on them…:rolling:

Weathering was fun though, adding some depth to the various panels and after carefully airbrushing the exhaust soot on, I was very pleased with the result:smiling4::


Used this lot, never change a good recipe:

A layer of matt varnish, the lights, the aerial wires and unmasking the canopy she was finished:



Will add more pics for the complete section shortly and this one will be carefully packed for a long journey tomorrow, on to the contest table of SMC.

Thanks Richard, the trip was safe for me but I didn’t pack the model carefully enough and found out just before the show that one of the landing gear struts had broken…so no entry of this one
