Fernando's Tamiya 1/35 Stug IIIB

Hi everyone,

Being enticed by Mr. Stug’s GB and never have built a short barrelled one, I decided to have a go at it with this one (yes another B:smiling5:

Kindly supplied to me by Mr. Dewire liberated from the lands east, he offered to keep taps on Evilbay and swiftly found me one :thumb2: :thumb2: (again thanks mate).
Firstly the sprues and the Fruils to replace the rubber tracks:

As my morning run in a winter landscape:

left me with some energy (and my feet needed some rest too:tongue-out3 a start had been made on assembling the lower bits:

Nice to have a working suspension on the first and last road wheels:

Although my bench was full already:

Some relaxing Stug therapy after all that putty and sanding business is just what I need:smiling4:, Tamiya’s easy assembly also helps a lot too:nerd:.

I'm sure Bob suggested the ATL-03 tracks to me for the same kit, what's the difference with the '05?

Hi Scratchy,

The ATL-03's were used till 1942 and had solid horns on the guide teeth as where the ATL-05's were used from 1942 on and had an open horns on the guide teeth. So Andy, it would depend on which year you wanted to place your StuG in. Both are correct as B's served till 1945 in training units and in combat. Neither tracks had chevrons on the link faces. Andy, yes copy along but the Tammy ones pretty easy to build, just think in tank lines not aircraft…:tongue-out3:

Steve, hi mate yes an Afv once again and thanks I have the luck of living only 7km from one of the larger wetlands in Holland:smiling4:.
Fruils and painting are the main challenge here and having no fuss fun is the main objective of course:thumb2:.
Bob, no problem cave’s next to the bathroom anyway and know that feeling each time outside, the cold makes me a tiny bladder old man…:smiling5:
Next to the window for Si:smiling5:.
Stout please Bob:thumb2:.
For other Bob the sauce is Ral8012 Rot Braun:hungry:.

Having the pleasure of an extra day off yesterday, a good step ahead has been achieved.
The fitting of the aluminium barrel was a little tricky due to the space around it, but a semi-quick CA solved that:smiling:.
Neat that Tamiya gives you a bit of the interior and a complete breach to build, will be nice to paint and weather up a bit:

Bob and Steve, thanks guys and no not a present Steve just an easy kit to build for the fun of it:nerd:.

With an early Christmas vacation this year, mainly planned to build as much as I can in three weeks…this one is slated for a new method to paint an AFV, well at least to me:smiling:.

Managed to complete the Fruil tracks last week, after the standard cleaning and drilling, I made them in 10pcs sets before making a left and right 100pcs track:


Oh and finished the topside too.
Thought I needed more, eventually I settled on 96 pieces per side and have some noticeable sag in the top run:

The interior got a coat of paint too, Vallejo 71.119 grey white being the base and the details were done using Revell enamels simply following the instructions:



A little wash of AK 093 and some sponge chipping with matt black was done for the weathering.
Not much can be seen anyway when finished and this is a nice palette to try out some ideas.
On to the paint stage.
