Mark's CMK Sturmgeschutz IV - Bobs StugGB

    Hi Guys

Picked this up in a stash clearance for the princely sum of £5 - it's actually the old 1975 vintage Tamiya moulds reboxed with some additional PE frets for the mesh schurzen armour.

As a Stug virgin please treat me gently!

I'm basically aiming for an out-of-the-box build in that I'm not planning to use any aftermarket parts but I may add a few scratch details

Had someone trod on the model that they built for boxtop illustrator to work from?

The zimmerit behind the wheels isn't going to be very visible so I'm experimenting with self adhesive plumbers tape scored with a dental pick...

Looks a bit rough and ready in this shot so I may just peel it off

                  Hi Mark,
I am no expert on zimmerit but I think that idea with the tape is quite good perhaps marking it out before fitting so you can get it more even might help.

                    Evening Mark,

I'm with Paul on the zimmerit too. It looks like it does have possibilities. The CMK kits are pretty cool even if they are a bit older. What's nice is you get a good multi-media kit for a pretty decent price. Resin, etch, wire and Tamiya plastic, but no decals.

Can't wait to see this one come together and the Thoma mesh side skirts too. You're off to a good start….

                    Prost

Tried the self adhesive aluminium tape on the superstructure as well ...

Adding the side rails - the kit supplies rigid brass rod but I've replaced with some alloy tube I had in stock as it bends more easily and is hollow like the original

The barrel came with the kit but the muzzle brake was a left over from the Marder III build as the one in the kit was unusable - very soft moulding

And adding a bit of swag - green stuff putty and a couple of bits from the spares box

Primer coat (Halfords rattle-can grey) applied. I think the plumber's tape Zimmerit looks reasonable if a little shallow. However in a lot of photos such as those in the Panzer Wrecks books the zimmerit doesn't seem as obvious as a lot of models show.

While the primer dries I'm making a start on the mesh armour - 98 PE parts in total!

                            Mark,

Looks good the zimm will pop when you do the washes.
