Wrong 453, just to remind both our 'addled brains, I've had a look at that particular sub build thread, and I threatened to fire him out of the stern tube! So he decided to find 'Another position'

I'd guess that would be because of his constant cries of "Where's the matches?". Oh sorry, I misunderstood. It was POLLY you threatened to fire out of the tube not John. My bad!

OK, the sixty four thousand dollar question.......was the Dornier really heading for Buck House or was that just propaganda?
Looking forward to this either way.....

                        Propaganda.

The bombers were targeting central London, but had been harried all the way to the capital before meeting a further force of six 11 Group squadrons close to London. As the bombers prepared to bomb, and for once almost in time, the Duxford Wing also arrived. Bombs fell all over South and Central London (Beckenham, Westminster, Lambeth, Lewisham, Battersea, Camberwell, Crystal Palace, Clapham, Tooting and Wandsworth). If the bombers didn't panic, then they did something that looked a lot like it. The idea that they were targeting something as specific as Buckingham Palace is obviously ridiculous.

In the case of Ron's Dornier, it is almost certain that the pilot had left before Holmes collided with it, so it wasn't intentionally heading anywhere!

This and the subsequent afternoon raid that the Luftwaffe launched, were both resounding defeats for the Germans. It shattered the morale of some of the bomber units and is rightly remembered as Battle of Britain Day. On 7 September the British believed that they were losing, and were trying to lose as slowly as possible. With hindsight not afforded the men in charge or doing the fighting at the time, we can see that what we call the Battle of Britain was won today, 15 September 1940.

Made some good progress with the Hurricane. Despite the age of the kit, everything fitted well. The decals were superb and settled over all the 'Bits' with no need for any further attention.

                          Legless no more....

I didn't have Holmes's correct I.D. letters, so I had to pencil them in, then brush paint them. Near enough for purpose.

                            Hi Ron
Murfie's Hurricane looks good. ID letters look fine. Love the banter - all that talk about "firing out of the stern tube" reminds me of the morning after a particularly fiery curry a few years ago.

Thanks Jim. the letters were a pain to paint on, but would pass muster. - From an Arriva Bus going through Oswestry!

                              Slight correction too, Jim.
This Hurricane is the donor one kindly sent to me by Ian (papa) I'm building 'Murfie's' as a stand alone model.

Ah, yes. Did you ever try the 'MacBraynes Special Curry'? Been there, bought the 'T' shirt from the purser, and found the bog. - just in time!

                              Thanks for your post.

'course it is. I am easily confused - just ask the missus. I put it down to having a brain jam packed full of profound thoughts. She says it is senility and years of relying on her to think for me. A tad unfair methinks :rolling:
