        Cheers gents.

I really need to get on with the weathering. I got sidetracked with another build (Ferrari F50).

            Cheers Joe.

Yes it is a good picture, that's exactly the load out shown in the instructions for the Fleet Interception load.

I've been doing some reading on AIM-54's, according to Wiki only 3 were actually ever fired in combat. 2 had motor failures, and the third missed!

By the Americans, right? The Iranians probably fired rather more, and the Iraqis were apparently very wary of anything that appeared to be an F-14 on their long-range radars.

Ah, yes, also according to Wikipedia:
The AIM-54 is credited with 78 air-to-air kills, all scored by Iran
I’ve been wanting to build an F-14 in Iranian colours for some time now, though it’d be in 1:72 as 1:48 is just too big for the space I have

Looking great Bob. The basic grey scheme could have been a bit boring, but you've livened it up really well.

                  Cheers Colin.

Got the clay wash done today, she's starting to look like a dirty bird. Still got some more oil weathering to do, but it's almost done.

                        Cheers gents.

I was worried about overdoing it, but looking at pics online a lot of these were very dirty.

Hi guys. Long time, no post.

I managed to get sidetracked by another build, but as that was completed at the weekend I got back to work on the Tomcat.

There actually wasn't that much more to do. I went over it with some oils to add even more dirt and weathering, painted in the nav lights and attached the drop tanks, ordnance and various aerials, pitots, AOA probes etc,

What did take a little planning and time was bending the acrylic rods to the right shapes, accomplished with some jigs and an electric paint stripper. I found that I had slightly miscalculated and the walnut base wasn't quite heavy enough to prevent tip back, so had to add another strip of wood underneath to give it a larger footprint.

With that it's done, but as it was gone 11pm last night I haven't taken pics yet. I will try and post some up this evening.
