Cheers chaps,
Found out that a good few parts can be substituted with PE but that has to be bought as an option. Typical Hawegase I have heard. Pity you can't get them most of it is in the pit so I'm a bit 'meh' about it. Was ticked me off was the rigging wires with the end covers are a part of the PE and No optional plastic part. Bummer.
Any how. Plastic has been cut and glueing has occurred.

Started with something large as simple. But still only saw by chance the ADD 20g weight.

Bit of the nicely detailed and soon impossible to see cockpits. Mostly one colour so quicker th build up, paint, touch in the other colours and assemble çompletly.

Need to sort the seams on the floats before painting those...
Comments welcome.
Oh Bismark is shelved for a while...Comment

Meanwhile due to pouring rain! (Yeah real rain, the first for almost 6 weeks). I got some paint on the cockpit

An odd way to do the cockpit, in two halves, made it fiddly to put it together and in place, but got it there.

Thanks Neil. The Fuselage is now closed up. Guess how much of it can be seen...lol
So its raining still lol
I had intended to cut all the control surfaces free and do my normal trick of having them a bit more relaxed than they other wise are. but the top surface is not the same as the bottom and makes it hard to find where the cut goes. Might have been easier if the wing was not glued up but alas to late, lolComment

Cheers chaps. It has bucketed down with rain for the last couple of days. We need the rain as there has been a drought (again) so the first rain for 6 weeks! Our rain barrels where pretty near empty but are now half full already. So while it has rained I have played indoors.
So the situation:
Things are looking black:
I am trying a new, to me, primer from AK:
After reading that a lot on here swear by it, I thought I would give it a go. All I have done is swear AT it. Primer and Micro filler...? Dries to a matt finish. Dry to the touch after 30 mins. Fail, fail and fail. Oh! And it smells and cleans up with cellulose thinners. Not my ideal choice. I am trying to break the habit.
It dries flat and is thin but Thick you guys are using some other AK primer.
Their Real Colours paint on the other hand is rather good. AS could be seen on the cockpit, it goes down nice and gives a nice finish.
Dries matt?
So far not a huge fan.
These are my Japanese colours...
The instructions say the underside surfaces are green grey (RC303) Other sources say grey. (RC032). I rather like the green.
The top surfaces etc Mitsubishi dark green... so either 304 or 305 I guess 304.
Mitsubishi interior green is the RC306
What I have used so far is promissing...Lets hope they go down well on the Airframe.Comment

The funny thing is I am only doing an hour here and there. Just in the space of days and not weeks. I is quite a simple but enjoyable build. No fit issues. almost shake and bake dare I say...
AS paint goes they are good. I was spraying for almost an hour last night. Almost no tip dry. Maybe twice in that hour.
I might have got a "thin" bottle of primer, will try one more if nothing better turns up.
So you swear by Mr. Surfacer. I might have to try that one day.
Any how:
Went for the darker of the two greens for the tops. Just a little post shade on the top of the fuselage to give it a little sun bleached look. The rest is single colour one panel at a time!
Top wing.
The undersides in green grey, again one panel at a time and letting the paint do the work.
Sorry blurry picture! No I did not mask off. I just went for it. Maybe I should have lol.
At the moment the floats are attached and the glue's drying. Learned that Lacquer paints and glue not as forgiving as acrylics.
With Vallejo I fine that the glue just goes through the paint. With this the glue removes the paint.... Hmm where did I put that touch up brush...
More later.
Oh! One other thing. I found that in 1943- '44 Yamato's spotters had the tail code AI-1, AI-2 etc. so AI-1 it is then I think I might be able to paint that! Might do the white stripes on the tail wings as well while I am at it.
Edit: I made a mistake in those dates but hey ho. I found my white serials decal sheet so it can get the correct code; 212-01.
Comments welcome more later.Comment

OK then so far I have tried stretched sprue: What is up with plastic these days. It is almost impossible to make a good bit of stretched these days! Either they break and curl up as you pull them = useless.
Pull out but with lumps in = useless.
Pull out far to quick and thin. = yep useless.
Found some 0.5 mm piano. 30cm later still not got one to the correct length!
That Lycra stuff is way to thin
Found some smooth coated sewing thread. will play with that a while.Comment
