    1/24 Tamiya Sauber-Mercedes C9

    Hi Guys,

My 2nd entry to the GB will be this:

I've decided to throw some aftermarket at it, so currently waiting on a delivery from Spot Models in Spain which should hopefully arrive next week. In the meantime I will make a start getting the body ready, and probably start putting the engine together.

    Hi guys. :smiling3:

Made a start on this today, just wanted to get the body cleaned up and a couple of parts glued. Not much clean up required, a couple of mold lines that came off easily, but the inside of the engine cover was a mess.

I just sanded it smooth, looks a lot better now.

I also had a look at the wheels, strangely these had no valves but luckily I had some resin ones. On these wheels the valves stick out (rather than toward the centre of the wheel), I guess it makes topping them up during a race quicker.

Last thing was the ducts for the front brakes. There is a known issue with this kit where the ducts are supposed to glue to the floor pan, but then leave a gap to the body. The simple solution is to glue them to the body and add some plasticard. This still needs trimming and filling.

    Si vis pacem, para bellum.

      Hi guys.

Some goodies arrived yesterday, so now I can properly get started with this build.

I'm going to make some of the smaller PE parts like the door latches before removing the kit plastic parts, just in case.

        Morning all.

It's been a couple of weeks since the last update. I've not had much modelling time, and when I have been to the bench it's been a lot of fill, sand, prime, repeat. This was all to get a seamless finish on the air intakes and "bonnet" section. I think I am finally there, but won't know for sure until the silver is on.

With that out of the way I then turned to removing some plastic detail and replacing it with PE.

I bought some PE primer to try, never used it before.

Will see if it makes any difference.

The PE addition makes a big difference, excellent!

Sorry Bob, late to this build, but a cracking start.

Looking good Bob. Careful, patient work to get there. The PE looks fiddly but worthwhile.
I've used VMS metal primer. Not sure how much better it is. It will be interesting to see how you get on with the Tamiya stuff.

                  Morning Gents.

As you may have noticed I haven't posted on this thread for a while. Mrs B has been quite unwell and at home for the last 2 weeks. As I am a dining room table modeller, and she has asthma, that has meant no spraying leaving me very much in the pits with this build.

I got back to it Sunday, but I'm in serious danger of getting a DNF before the deadline this coming Saturday. I'm going to try and push on as much as possible and see if I can get across the finish line.

Over the last few days I got the body painted (not particularly well as I rushed the prep) and made a good start on the undertray.

There were quite a few CF decals for the underside and interior of the engine bay, including multiple parts for the rear brake cooling ducts. I attempted heat shielding with aluminium tape that didn't go great, too many creases. If I had the time I would re-do this in multiple parts. The body needs glossing, then there are a few more CF parts for the interior to go.

The rest of the parts are already off the sprues and cleaned up so I'm going to do my best to get eveything painted up and assembled by the end of Saturday.

As organiser of this build I think, due to H&S reasons, you should deploy a safety car to slow things down thus giving you a chance to catch the pack.

                      :tears-of-joy:

Maybe (if I don't progress as quick as I hope) a Virtual Safety Car.

Why is common sense not so common?

If time gets tight, award yourself a Le Mans day. A solid 24 hours. That'll be in keeping with the car!!
