At last I can get stuck into this one. So first impressions. This is a level 5, 228 piece 1/48 scale offering from Revell of the Eurofighter Typhoon display teams "Black Jack". I have to say it is a beautifully designed supersonic, twin-engine, canard, delta wing multirole fighter.
I did some research on line and some builders of this kit have come across seam lines on the canopy, poorly fitting body panels requiring alot of filling and decals that are either too large in some places or too small in others so its going to be an interesting build. I have to say mine doesn't have the notorious canopy seam so I am hoping some improvements have been made. So here gents are the pictures of the sprues, decals and instruction sheets. First impressions are that the mouldings are very clean, highly detailed with no visible flash. Wish me luck.

As Colin says - black yet colourful. Dont fancy thos big decals and they don't look as if masking and painting would be easy. Watching with interest.👍 1Comment

Already run into some issues and only got to stage 2. The decal sheet is incorrect. Working on the instrument panel the decal sheet shows that decals are provided for the instruments and they are numbered 2, 5 and 6.
There are no switch decals at all and decal 2, 5 and 6 are all exterior decal.
It does give 3 screen decals for radar etc but these are not shown in the plans at all and I have 2 decals numbered 79 on the sheet.
I did some research on line and this problem has been highlighted and it is just a case of suck it up and move forward. With that in mind the instruments will now need to be hand painted.
On a more positive note I have assembled the ejector seat, a 4 piece assembly, and it has some nice detail. Also assembled the wheel wells and air intake which again have some nice detail and fit very well. Instructions show weight to added to front of fuzz but I have put it into the nose cone instead.
Finally the instructions tell you to secure the two moveable front canards in place prior to joining the two fuzz halves together. This wont be happening. Due to the complex decal design and anticipated filling and sanding of the fuzz there is no way I would be able to work around them and get a decent finish so these will go on at the end of the build.
Thanks for following.

Progress has been made chaps. I have to say that I am very pleased with how "BlackJack" is coming along. Considering all the pieces particularly around the air intakes the fit of the model is very good. I have done some work on the office but as this will be a canopy down model I haven't gone to town on it and just used the kit ejector seat with molded harness.
I will be adding some harness straps to the bum seat cushion and I still have some dry brushing to do on the ejector seat sides.
Moving on the office has been installed and the two fuzz halves joined.
wing assembly and internals also complete and ready for attaching.
When offered up the wing assembly fits very neatly to the fuzz so not much work to do here.
One thing I like about this kit is it has two seperate pieces that form the spine of the fuzz so no nasty seam line to deal with
After adding weight to the nose this has now been secured in place. Thats it for now.
Cheers
