    Nick's Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk 1.

Afternoon Gents. Just sticking this post up as a placeholder because I'm not quite ready to start on this one yet. The kit has recently been re-issued by Airfix, but I have a previous boxing that I think went into the stash in the Spring of 2018. Looks like the price has increased by around 50% for the latest issue!

Getting closer to making a start on this one, so here are the other bits and bobs before I forget to add them.

The plastic - standard Airfix fare and familiar to most, I imagine...

Three props... three canopies with open/closed options. Quite a lot going on really, so I will have to pay attention to the instructions.....

I might go 'wheels-up' on this build, so the seat belts may go back into the stash for something else.

More once I've made a start. Thanks for looking in.

A Spitfire in temperate land scheme, takes me a long way back. I'll never get tired of seeing one of these built.

              Gents, some progress..... at last...

I started off by cutting a slot in the lower wing part for the stand...

Later, doing some dry fitting I noticed a couple of horrors. Non-matching panel lines on the front of the fuselage and a sink mark on the RHS....

These are currently waiting for my sprue-goo application to dry fully.

I also had a go at opening out the exhausts. They look pretty ragged up close!

So that's where we are. I'm currently painting the pilot and fiddling with some of the other bits until the flaws are ready to be put right. Onwards and upwards......

              Thanks for looking in.

Nice progress Nick. What a shame about the panel line mismatch because the rest of the model looks incredibly detailed.

                  Nice work Nick 😊

Shame about the manufacturing faults, I’m sure you’ll cure them.

Not sure if you’ve tried it but I usually add a smear of extra thin cement on the end of exhausts that I’ve drilled out as it helps tidy up the ragged bits.

Managed to get the airframe together. There's a small amount of work still to be done before I set to with the painting........ All pretty painless so far.

Looking fine nick , looks a well detailed kit , shame about the little niggles ( panel line and sink marks) but youve sorted them from the looks of it. Its very similar in detail and layout to the 1/72 I did a bit back , wonder if they just pantographed the moulds from one scale to the other ?

Definitely Spitfire looking. I’d leave the sink mark, it looks like a dent. The poor old thing has had a hard life.
