PBI GB - How the other half rest - A tale of two armies.

Just preparing my thread for this GB.
My rough plan thus far is for a duel sided diorama.
US troops on one side and German troops on the other.
Two different scenario's on the one diorama.
The US troops on some rough ground with a big crater being used as a foxhole/resting point, a tent/tarp to one side and a Willys jeep to the other.
The German troops on a paved road at a checkpoint, with a barrier to one side and a Kubelwagon to the other.
NB: The two vehicles have already been built previously.
Both sets of troops having some "down time", resting and relaxing, away from the action and front line.
Kits to be used will include the following:

Started to form the crater on one side and the road on the other, not sure what I'll do with the central divider? don't want to leave it white, so maybe paint it...

I've decided to use plain old 5mm foam board for the base, doubled it up with overlapped joints, which will be hidden once covered.
Mainly used that as I had lots of it laying around....

Did a bit more to the base, added some fine filler to flesh out the small hill on the German side,
NB: US side is the left side and German side is the Right side, and also used filler to rough up the road surface
and used a patterned roller to imitate a paved road surface... also cut in slight angle to edge of the road surface on both sides to give the impression of a curved / sloping road surface....

Then added some thin (0.5 or 1mm) plasticard, cut into paving slab sizes and glued them down to give a rough approximation of a pavement....
Also cut some long thin ones for paved edging slabs, will look better once they have been painted, weathered, etc (hopefully)! Also added some pva to smooth out the small hill....

Then added some more texture to the US side, eg: rough ground with crater..... and added a small slope to the rear, I think I'm going to put a small wall or fence on this? not sure yet....

And I have also started on some of the accessories I will be using on this diorama, bits and bobs and a couple of the figures, all assembled, glued and primed.....
