Bit more progress today, started the painting process on the base, think I will need a few coats building up each side.
Ignore the horrid green, don't know what I was thinking! Lol.
That will be changed to a more natural colour, and those areas will probably have short static grass at the end....
Also added a bit more "texture" to the US crater side....

Couple more coats put on the base, darkened up the green area, but as stated before, they will be covered in static grass eventually.
The US side now has a bit darker base and I've painted the brick wall, but will do a bit more on that.

The German side has also had a bit more paint and darkened up the green area.
Plus I will be using the small sentry box and the barrier from the "Frontier checkpoint" kit.
Primed and painted the box white, but it will eventually have a red, black and white chevron look, like the cover art on the kit box (see above).
These are not set in position yet, I may move them around a bit, and I think I will lose the oversize base "splodges" to the barrier pillars at each end.
The barrier will also have some sort of white/red design like the kit box cover art.

I think I'm going to add long thin kerb stones to the other side of the paved road too.....so it has the same edging each side....

As already mentioned in the first post, I will be using two vehicles in this diorama.
For the US side a Willys jeep, previously built in another build thread.

And for the German side a Kupelwagon, previously built on another build thread.

I have yet to decide where exactly these will be placed on the final diorama.
I have considered a damaged jeep, or maybe a jeep being repaired, as part of the diorama, we'll see.

These will strategically placed for the final set-up on the diorama, along with a few other bits....
I intend having a couple of barrels, maybe an oil drum or two, a couple of fuel cans, etc... 8-)

Had a busy day today, so not much time for modelling, but managed a few hours this morning.
                  Mainly updated the US side.
More paint on the base to make it look muddier, and varying the colours for a mottled effect, and added some small extra touches, bits of wood, debris, few extra loose bricks, etc.

Added some static grass to the path from the gate,
And a couple of small tufts of greenery.

And finally decided what to do with the divider......
Just some gentle painting to give an idea, or the impression of a background, nothing too harsh or dramatic.
Lastly I darkened the interior of the crater to try to give a bomb blast charring effect.

Neatly done Peter. Can you make it rain on the German side?

Very nice Peter, the green looks better. Regarding the divider, how about making it a brick wall, easier to paint than sky etc. JMO.

Made some more progress this morning (and late last night) mainly on the German side.
It has has had similar treatment to the US side, eg: divider now painted, just to give an impression of a background.
Have added long thin kerb stones to the near side of the road.
Have added static grass to the verges.
I have removed the large "splodges" to the bases of the barrier pillars.

Decided to add a small remnant of a building edge/corner, so used some foam, distressed it and painted it, (it will still need weathering later).
Then decided to also add a window (or part of a window) so some small lolly sticks were deployed to make a window frame and a small cut out of some clear plastic sheet for the window pane.

Sorry, but its mainly been the Dio pics so far, even though its meant to be a GB about Infantry! I've not posted much on the actual troops!
But obviously the Dio will be the backdrop telling the story of how the two armies relax and spend their non front line time....
I have been working on the figures as well, little by little, so an update on the German figures, they are so far looking like this, not finished yet, but nearly there...

Still need a bit of tidying up here and there and a few other small details added, but we do now have some Soldat from the Wehrmacht to add to our little scene....
I have alos been beavering away on some of the little accessories and bits and bobs that may (or may not) be added to the final Dio scene.
I have used the machine gun on a tripod in another Dio (my original German Half Trak Dio a while back) so that is not new....

Perhaps exactly the same barn, the US side slightly later and hence the crater and damage, and different aspects of the barn?

I was thinking of perhaps making each side of the partition one aspect of a barn! I posted this yonks ago, thought I'd deleted it but clearly not and now things have progressed ... sorry mate (Can understand the confusion!)

Lol, no worries, yep early on I did consider have the two sides sharing one space, possibly at different times, but I decided on two completely different places in the end.... 8-)

Two of them will be lying prone resting, one with "Life" magazine on his chest.
One will be sitting reading a newspaper/map.
