    PBI Korea

Many of you will not have visited this particular memorial in Washington DC. In my opinion it is one of the most moving testaments to the infantry who fought in what is known as the forgotten war. Each of these figures is about 8 feet tall and although they are all together, each one is a character who seems very much alone. This was sculpted by Frank Gaylord and erected in 1995. Each of the 19 figures is cast in stainless steel which makes them appear more like phantoms

I intend to sculpt just one of these figures since I think that one of the characters typifies the mood of both this memorial and the GB that we are participating in.

            Making progress.

            Step 1 Wire support
Step 2 Thin coat of Apoxie to freeze the pose
Step 3 and 4 Adding more detail
Step 5 Mk 1 head which is too rough and too big so new head underway
Step 6 Adding the poncho also made an approximate Garand which he will be carrying.

I only have one photo of this guy so lots of the detail is hard to do and entirely made up.

I am still trying to decide whether to paint him as stainless steel or in natural colours. I'll cross that bridge when the sculpting is done.

Thanks for taking the time to look in and comment guys.

I must say I am finding this more of a challenge than it used to be, what with hands that won't do what they are told and weakening eye sight. Anyway I have got most of his poncho done. I also had a go at the really difficult job of making hands. They are not great but I don't think I can do much better. These took at least 6 go's to get here.

Now on to the hardest bit, making a head that looks acceptable AND is to the right scale.

                            All comments much appreciated.

Well the sculpting is just about finished. A bit of tidying up to do. Now to decide how I paint him.
