PBI - A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!

Céad míle Fáilte! (A hundred thousand welcomes!) The elements of the diorama are virtually complete apart from a rifle sling for the baton gunners' SLR and baton gun, SLR barrels, and visors for both helmets. Here's the basic layout, Some tarting up of the base and, of course, painting (K)Neil (the rifleman), and Barney (the baton gunner) - DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) smocks and lightweight trousers rather than all DPM uniform. Time frame is '70's to early ''80s. C&Cs welcome as always!

who are the figures by and what scale?

They're from Mitche's Military Models Neil, sculpted by Maurice Correy. I have so say they're not my favourite sculpt - not as bad as many I've seen but sometimes lacking in detail and has iffy locating mechanisms! Still, it eas a present so I'm not complaining!

I'm not saying the sculpt is c..p Neil, it's just that I was disappointed in certain aspects of this production; EG: I found the edges of pouches too sharp or too defined and rectilinear ('58 kit is much 'softer'), a lack of detail such as slings and sling swivels and location points were often problematic due to short casting. I love the dynamism of the poses and the story telling - it certainly resonates!
They are 120 mm and I'll be happy to display them (I've actually been offered £150 for the diorama - to go to a Service charity) so I'll be satisfied to produce a reasonable result to justify that confidence!

Moz was i seem to remember served initially in Royal Fusiliers and then Royal Signals.He did a great job on my SBS bust a few years ago and heads to go with it.When i spoke with him at Euro he said sometimes he hated sculpting.Think after 30 years he had enough,Plus he said he didnt get enthused by some subjects,Think he liked doing modern stuff and he always sculpted in the original green milliput.Like he said when he started out it was all they had to use and had to learn its traits.When he did 120mms they were very good.Think he does his own cold cast resin large figures now as presentation pieces.

Thanks for the info Richard, as I said there were only certain elements that I found disappointing but nothing major! If I could sculpt half as well as he does I'd be very satisfied!

Steve.If you convert a few busts a warning it can become very addictive!!!,I find it very rewarding tinkering with say Dragon 1 .16th figures by resculpting details.Its a lovely way to get into figure conversions.If you go on youtube check out Glenn Bartolotti he does the most amazing vignettes with 35th and 120mm figures.We bounce ideas off each other and he sculpts his own buildings.Check his lovely work out as he has inspired me to start doing figures again.I think next year im going to be doing my stalled conversions.Although im doing a jet at the moment figures are really my thing,I think on here a few of us can keep the figure genre going.
