    Trumpeter 1/35 Sd.Kfz.8 12T Gepanzerte (armoured)

I opened the lid on this kit in 2013 after reading an article about an unusual, and as it turned out, unique late war German prime mover. Built on a Sd.Kfz. 8 DB10 chassis, this was a rare, armoured artillery tractor variant that was pulled from the Pilica River in Poland in 1999. It had sunk in the river on January 18, 1945, during the German forces' withdrawal. The vehicle was later restored to a running condition in 2003 and is now on display in a Polish museum. I resurrected the build last year.

Only three period images survive (that are widely avalaible) and two show different rear door designs. Trumpeter have referenced the surviving vehicle which had two rear doors and two locker doors which is identicle at the rear to one of the images of an abandoned vehicle towing an 88mm, so it is possible that the two door variant might well have been intended as a troop carrier. The rescued vehicle also had very narrow, large rimmed, solid tyred front wheels which the kit does not supply. It only supplies the regular late DB10 type with vinyl tyres which is what the restored vehicle are fitted with when running.

    I hope you like it.

I considered fitting a few different types of front wheels during the final weathering stages of the build. These are a set of aftermarket resin FAMO wheels that come with chunky allied rubber

An excellent modeling job. Finishes are also top notch. Always thought this was a paper panzer. Thanks for sharing the background.
