Calling this done. It is finished in Tamyia flat earth and highlighted with the same paint lightened with Tamyia white. The decals around the Turret were a nightmare as you can imagine given all the raised detail and they are far from perfect but they give the right impression hopefully.

Hi mate, I believe that originally these tanks were not going to be landed but would stay on the landing craft. The markers on the outside of the turret enabled to show othe people the angle they were traversing to engage the targets. This changed as leaving good tanks on the boats was considered a waste of resources.
No doubt some one will give a better explanation.Comment

That’s pretty much it: the degree markings allowed observers outside the tank, and nearby infantry once they got ashore, to easily tell the tank crew which direction to fire in.Comment
