SPACE..... The final Frontier.... I mean PROBLEM!

Hi Guys
I`ve seen a few comments on various threads,around the site recently,relating to the issue of not enough space to keep/show completed models on Dioramas.
Obviously one solution could be,make the base as SMALL as you can to do the story justice:thumb2: .
Then of course,you could stack your little/large dios in those airtight tubs,they`re clear and will keep the dust from settling:smiling:
Lastly,and i DO see this a lot in peoples pics of their man cave/modelling area.....
The stash is piled up everywhere,i don`t agree at all with hiding your well funded and toiled over,kits in boxes in the loft!!:flushed: Where`s the point in doing them in the first place???!!!:fearful::dizzy:
SORRY,i can`t go with doing that!!..... Put the STASH in the loft,and use that room they used up to stack/display your finished stuff,
Leave the nondescript boxes in the loft,( that your descendants will undoubtedly find in wild moments of adventure:tongue-out3,for unopened kits and stuff......... you don`t want them eagerly ripping into a box,expecting some sort of familly history from great grandad Charlie Finnar Finnar Quentin Baxendale...... only to find it crammed full of plastic kits that C.F.F.Q.B. was......
........ "Fairly happy with that,but there`s room for improvement for sure,oh well...... which one next Guys"?????!!!!

Well Andy my tiger wont be hid up in the loft as it will have pride of place in the liveing room on the unit where my norfolk is now an my norfolk will go up in my model room to still be seen on it own shelf so i wont have this problem

im lucky, i get the spare room to do my hobby in

kits either go in display cases on the wall or in plastic storage boxes under the bed.....keeps dust off them...........when stuff gets really old they go into storage in the loft in plastic boxes
the majority of the stash is in the loft but i keep about 20 or so kits in the 'maybe next stash' in a cupboard (i have a digital stash on my laptop so i know exactly what i have if needed)

I've already had a cull, took loads of photos of one large Dio and removed the armour and figures and dumped the base. There's another few in the attic, which will be joined soon as room in the cave is running out
As long as you have a collection of photos of the ones you've put away what else can you do. It reminds me of the time I moved to a bigger workshop, thought it was too big ! Several years later I had it filled.

A never ending problem, but the fun was building the kit wasn't it ?

I always wonder if there is any mileage in trying to sell completed stuff? I know there is in the small figures I do, because some gamers don’t like to paint. I’ve no idea about bigger stuff though.

I sold a box of war hammer stuff and two built and painted Pz III’s last year. paid for a few new kits :smiling4:
I got a Pz IV and a Stryker that I’ll auction in a few weeks...I want the new airfix Cromwell :nerd:

I sold my old railway unbuilt etched kit stash last year and made enough modelling vouchers to last for a couple of years. Turns out most of them were out of print and quite sought after. I also sold some Airfix ships at the same time, and seeing the recent tribulations on here think that was a really good move LOL...

One problem that I have very recently experienced, like yesterday. My stash is packed away in boxes in a spare room. This spare room is up for a total do over. ie New floor, walls, ceiling and insulation. thus making it a usable space. Anyhow said room needs to be empty. Having a vacant plot in the bedroom i start to remove said boxes of model stash. After the sixth or seventh box, (and we are talking moving boxes as is when you move house) i noticed a frown on my wifes face..... Bugger I knew I should have done it while she was busy elsewhere!
Looks like I have very little chance of sneaking more kits into the house now!

HI Ian exscuse me as im not a kit builder at the moment but have been an will be in the future but why do you want to increase the stash with more kits as you said your SWMBO gave you a frowning look so that to me would mean no more kits till youve built what you have got ?

So long as the boxes were closed, could always say that they're old kits (which in a way, they are) she might then think that they're old, completed kits :thinking:

I usually store my old models in a large plastic container that sits out in our driveway. This seems to have unlimited space since every week it just magically becomes empty again.

I think it was more the amount of room they take up more than anything. But yes I might be pushing my luck if I started buying to many again, one or two would not be a problem.

I've run out of usable space for storage and display space is right out the window. I've found it a good idea to avoid news websites so I don't get tempted to buy new things. Digging into the stash and picking a bucket list kits a lot more fulfilling than buying another one. Even if it's not finished to the best of your abilities those kits can make good refreshers between more serious projects. They're great test beds for techniques you've seen in the wild and want to try taming.
