How to make an aircraft stand from scratch

A long time ago on a PC far, far away - somewhere in the browser history I had a link to a page. It was a really excellent “how to build a model aircraft stand”. He used a plinth, a metal rod and plastic tubing I seem to recall.

I was wondering if anyone had such a link? I was planning to start an Airfix Lightning, finish an Eduard Mig-21 and then start on some others, but rather than wheels down, I want to put them on stands. I have a load of decent oak planks in my garage that will make ideal plinths, so I have a good idea how to do this, but just wondered if anyone had a reference for creating a plinth for an in-flight aircraft?

I've done a SR71 and F-14 with perspex poles up the jet pipes, and a few with metal rods in the underbelly, screwed into a bolt cemented inside. Can send pics if it helps.

I have a 1/72 Spitfire that has no canopy - lost the whole perspex fret somehow but now I use it for experiments - usually with the airbrush. I’ll try with that and if it doesn’t help I’ll come back, but thanks.
