    RMS QUEEN MARY 1

    Well this one was
My first proper attempt at building a ship and it was trial and error every step of the way. I’ve learnt plenty of useful skills for the next one.
It’s far from perfect but none the less complete.

    That's a great result Carl.

Neat paintwork for sure. Ship superstructures and decks are a b****r to paint, yours looks very nicely done.

"Far from perfect" Don't worry about that, there is no such thing as perfect and if anyone who states or even thinks, his or her work is perfect, they are best avoided.

No matter what short comings you think are in this model. you are learning from them, and your future builds can only get better.

We all learn from each build we complete.

Thanks for the kind comments. I was out of my comfort zone here but as you say it’s a good if steep learning curve. I’ve already mentioned to others that I have a big battleship like the Hood in mind for next year.

Good result, Carl - you can think of this as a taster - gives you a bit more appetite for the next one!

Definitely Dave, as I say, this was done as a favour for a friend as my first choice would be a nice big WW2 Battleship

Very nice result Carl. I especially like the decks and the bunting sets it off well.

You may want to try some really thin thread for rigging

you can get specialist rigging material, but it is very expensive for what it is!

I pinched the rigging cotton from my titanic model which is still in the box which was twice as big scale wise. It was probably too thick for that also. I did have some other nylon and some stretchy stuff but that was for 1:48 aircraft and looked too thin. When I make the next boat I will look to get the correct thickness next time. Thanks for the link.

                        Ron,
has summed it all up. That is a great result.

Excellent finished model. Pleased the rigging at the top of the funnels finished well, did you drill small as we discussed on the build?

Yes, I drilled 0.5mm holes and tucked in the rigging cottons and glued it. Used my little dremmel type drill . The rigging is not particularly pretty but again I learnt as I went along and I reckon the next boat should be a bit tidier.
