it would seem my first thought was incorrect, once the rear was removed i found this.

It would seem he had was going to put the servo inside the hull, i could not feel it when i put my hand inside.

I dont mind admitting when im wrong lol

Hi John. I have a similar model to you..built from plans by my father in 1957(in Africa). It was shipped back to UK a few years later and has been lying around ever since.
I've just decided now is the time to put it back on the water!

I,m not a modeller at all but looking forward to restoring it. I,ll try to upload a few pics so you can compare. mine was built in the bread and butter style and the stern is slightly different (and solid!). Dave.

Hi Dave looks a lot of work to do on this one, do you know what scale it is.

It's good to see im not alone on this one.

As you can see i have cut open the stern deck & it's a bit of a mess in there but i needed to do this so i could fit the motor in when i get it.

The motor will come from a vauxhall heater fan.

At some point i will need to remove the rest of the decking to fit the electric's.

Hi John. have I encouraged you to start work on it again! that deck must have taken some getting off! Plenty of room now for fitting out. I'm in the process of making two new sides for the rear deck (bulwarks?) out of 4mm ply. Not very well detailed but that's the way it was built in the first place. Seeing as you have the only plan(!) could you tell me what lengths the two masts are as I need to make two more for mine.

My boat measures 54" in length, by about 8".

Any ideas where I can find a 3" length of 1/8" copper tube? One of the lifeboat stanchions is missing!

Catch you later....I've got some serious woodworking to do!

Dug this one out again to see what I can do with it, my problem seems to be all the photo's I can find of this boat seem to giffer in one way or another.

So I will stick to the plans as best I can & not modify to much.

1, I have started by removing all the edging planks around the main deck & upper deck's (not on the plans).

2, The wheelhouse I will throw away as its the wrong shape also it has a base in it so I cant cut out the windows & fit the glass.

3, The Bridge deck surround is to thick & looks naff so I will rip it off & start again.

4, I have cut out the Aft decking to make access for fitting rudder/ engine, this should be easy to replace as it's all steel decking & not planked.

5, The Engine room skylight is not the right shape & is carved out of solid wood.

Well I think that's enough to keep me going for now don't you.

                  Till next time have fun

                  John

                        Hi John,
Did this get project get finished?

I am also building a Zwarte Zee using the same plans at 1/4" = 1 foot (1-48 scale) -- where is the best place to locate hardware fittings for this model (portholes, antenna, capstans, bollards, etc.)? Thanks for your help!
