    Bismarck - Revell - 1:1200 scale - Miniships kit

Taking a break from my Vintage Airfix GB Arado plane kit, paint probs!
So went through my stash, and I have a couple of little (1:1200 scale) miniships kits by Revell, (part of a previous Auction haul), so thought I'd give one of those a whirl....

    Bismarck, and its tiny!

No instructions, just basic plan on the back of the box.

But not many parts... just the hull, (cut down so flat bottomed for display), and one small sprue, thats it.
Forgot to take pics of the sprue, but here she is completed.
Paint pot shows how small she is!

Completed the build in about an hour, no issues, apart from couple of the parts on the plan are not on the sprue, and a couple of parts on the sprue are not on the plan! But hey, it was easy enough to figure out.

I was just gonna build this one then bin it, but its actually such a nice little model, I think I'm gonna have a go at painting it. Will be awkward now its built, but I'll see how we get on anyway.....

Just reading up a little on her sinking....
Took a huge effort and toll on the British Navy, including the loss of HMS Hood, etc and lots of resources.
When Churchill announced the Bismarck's sinking to the HOP, he later remarked, "They seemed content"....

For a small model there is some good detail on it. Do I see a diorama somewhere in the future?

Great work but far, far too small for my peepers!

          Well done sir!

Attempted to paint this little boat last night, came out ok, but its so small my eyes are not up to the job, even with magnifiers on!
Looks ok, distinctly average, nothing special. But quite pleased with it anyway.
In hindsight it would have been far easier to paint this model as I assembled it, but I did not think I would bother painting it at the start.

I used a light deck tan on the decks and a light sea grey on the hull and some of the above deck super structures.
The main guns and a few other bits are a darker grey and there's flat black on the front and rear sections of the hull, and the top of the funnel, gun barrels and a few other bits.
A couple of the reference photos I found showed grey/green planes, so that what I did here.
The small lifeboats etc are painted a red brown.
I have just glossed the hull, ready for the decals to do on later today.
            Pics....

It is a bit challenging, must admit, but quite nice little kits for what they are and (relatively) quick to build. 8-)
I would never have bought them ordinarily, but they were part of an auction lot I won locally with a quite a few kits in it.

              Decals now on.....
I'm now debating whether to apply some minor weathering. maybe a light rust wash?

This one is now done, did not do any weathering in the end, just gave it a flat coat of varnish.

Looks good. The detail belies the scale.
