I might well be wrong, but I'm thinking that a pen spring might be too strong (even compressing, rather than stretching) as they're a fairly strong wire and wound rather 'tight' - you may find that you might have to stretch and cut one to reduce the number of coils to 'soften' itComment

Just had another look Chris. Couldn’t you just replace the flexible link between the servo and the barrels with a wire link? The servo should move the barrels up and down then. If you are worried about the servo being over stressed at the end of the run just put an omega loop like this
In the wire. Don’t buy them, just form it with round pliers. If you use thin nickel silver, or even phospher bronze, wire you will get no problems as it will hold the shape nicely.Comment

HI Gerry yes i'll try the nicker elastic first then the spring like you say an see what works but i havnt got much room to work in only an inch but will see how it goes but need that gun unit firstI might well be wrong, but I'm thinking that a pen spring might be too strong (even compressing, rather than stretching) as they're a fairly strong wire and wound rather 'tight' - you may find that you might have to stretch and cut one to reduce the number of coils to 'soften' it

HI TIM many thanks for this idea but its got to strech up to half an inch as that how far the servo pull is an then its got to sqeeze up another half an inch in the forward direckion as thats how the servo works an as i said in the top post to Gerry only got an inch to work in so very tight thats why i just wrapped a bit of wire to it so the wire will pull the guns up but then when the gun turret goes the opisite way the micro servo will also push forward a half an inch an the wire will bend so that the servo wont burn out others have had this prob but got round it by putting the micro servo on another cha but i cant as ive used up all 14 channels so im stuck so far with the flexible wire if you see what i meanJust had another look Chris. but cheers for your idea has it has some merit

Hi Chris. The omega doesn’t have to be a loop. We used to use this sort of arrangement for point operating rods in model railways if the area it had to fit in was very tight. The two connection points can almost be touching but you still get deflection in the bent area.
If you size the wire correctly you will get a very positive, but gentle, transmission of movement from the operating system. Still may not do what you want, but probably worth a little experimentation.Comment

The great work continues mate. I have a question if I may. Given that all the deck surfaces are painted green, I would presume to help hide the ship from above why do they not paint the top of the turrets?Comment

HI Scottie yes the build is still goin an will be for another 2 yrs or so an now your qeustion an the answer to your qeustion i havnt got the foggyiest idea im afraid but this is just how the R/N painted their ship in the 60's an 70's an i went all over HMS BELFAST an her decks are dark green like the colour ive painted tiger as she had dark green decks as well but now like on modern ships like my HMS NORFOLK they are now all painted dark grey decks but the guns an seawolf missle silo an the harppoon anti -ship missle tubes are all painted in the light grey but Scottie a very valid question an i'll ask on my ship forum to see if anyone on there knows AN I'LL put the answer on here as ive never really thought about it
cheers for your intrest

Hi chris
its been a little while since I checked in and all I can say is; wow! She is certainly coming together.
One question about the colour of deck which you may be able to help me with: what do you think the deck flooring would have been in the ward room of HMS Bulldog in 1945? I ask becasue for many years I have toyed with the idea of a boxed diorama depicting the signing of the German surrender aboard HMS Bulldog in 1945.

AN HI Scottie well ive asked on that ship site about your question but so far no reply all i can think its just how the navy painted their ships an regards the green deck well someone said its to do with seein the green ends you will know you are near the deck edge but i dont really think thats the answer as the ships railin would stop you takin a dip so dont really dont know on that either but Scottie thanks for takin an instrest in the model
