Very impressive Andy… Question how tall are the masts with crow nests?

So, in just under a year, I think I've finished it! Just going to paint up the sailors then decide whether they're going on or not.

Rigging wasn't too bad, laborious yes but with care very few needed doing again.

Got the sails out and at the first cut they just shattered. I think it's probably a result of age and storage, but to be honest I'm happy with it without. I could spend £80 on aftermarket sails, but if my Granny had wheels she'd be a wagon.Comment

Howdy chaps. A last piece of advice please?

I'm painting up these geezers as the last element of this project. I don't want to buy a wash simply for this, so what colour should I use to create washes for a) tanned Caucasian and b) African skin? They're going to look weird if left flat.Comment

Thank you both. I don't have oils, but they'll have an enamel clear out on then I'll use an acrylic wash. I have those two colours so I'll try it out on the bloke with the missing leg first!Comment

I've not washed with artist acrylics but since it is water based just in case to add a tiny drop of dish washing liquid to break the surface tension and it will spread evenly and catch at the corners. Just touch and don't brush vigorously.

 Cheers,

Well those solutions worked well, but all it really did was reveal how poorly these 1/96 moulds are for the figures. There's very little to highlight. Ah well, one will have to get pretty close up to notice.

Tops and hair left to do, then a dirt filter on the 'workers', stick them on t'boat, sort out the stand and we're done!

Amati make a range of sailing vessels of various levels of complexity, Alternatively try Wonderland Models or Premier Ship Models (who have an excellent walk-through menu) for other manufacturers! Good luck mate!
